Forums - Sales - So PS3 only "officially" over took X360 on 31 May 2014

Officially? vgchartz numbers? Check Jan 4 2014. The PS3 was more than 500K ahead. Still according to vgchartz it kept overselling the X360 every week but vgchartz realigned the numbers in favor of the X360. But yeah, for now we can say it is a tie.

Still the 7th generation isn't over yet. It will be when all consoles will be out of profuction. I'd like to remind that the PS3 is outselling even the XB1 thus the old consoles do matter.

VGChartz realigned the numbers because they are wrong. MS released a statement saying 84 million shipped Xbox 360s while VGChartz had the sales at lower than 81m. There's no way 3 million 360s were sitting on shelves.

I don't think Sony will ever officially say "Folks, PS3 just got ahead of 360". It only works when both companies release official numbers at the same time.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

according to official shipments, PS3 surpassed Xbox 360 back in December 2012. Factor in how padded the 360s numbers are due to multiple purchases via RROD, and the PS3 surpassed it way before that. Not "officially", because only shipments and sold-through numbers matter to investors, but unofficially in the sense that more people own PS3s worldwide than 360s

Lol wouldn't it be official if Sony said it?

This. Geez guys, don't you people understand the word official means?

Wasnt this site that had PS3 at 3 million ahead of 360 sales i smell bullshit, including the PS2 sales they are clearly over 160 million, and are still selling to this day. Lets not get started with their PS4 numbers and XBox One numbers NPD pegs Xbox One at a low 4 million once all reports are placed together yet its pagged 4.6 million right here.

Rrod units can't count as sold. That is lying to the shareholders... Which you just can't do.

There are more active PS3s anyway.

Aslong as their being tracked and still in production then yes you can say 7th generation is still going one could say 6th gen is still going PS2 is still around in small quantities. Vgchartz Xbox One numbers are laughable, when NPD proves them wrong by at least 600K.

I would say 6th gen is over now because even if PS2 are still selling, it's no longer being manufactured and we can consider the final shipment data as final sold to consumer data since these units will find owners sooner or later. 7th gen still going on and I doubt we will see it end before 2018 or 2019.

Party again? :P
