Forums - Gaming - Just if a console loses doesn't mean it failed

A majority of people I know (mainly in real life) seem to think if a product loses to it's competition it is a failure. I don't see why people think that at all. One friend said that the XB360 was a complete waste of time and money because it got beat out by the PS3. It still sold over 80 million, even without Japanese support, so I'd say it was a success. Same with this gen. Even though PS4 is bound to win, that doesn't mean XB1 can't gain some traction and at least make a profit. Though Wii U seems dead in the water, there's still a chance it could pick up eventually and still make a profit. Do you guys agree with me that some people need to think before they speak?

Shhh.. you'll upset them.

Absolutely agree. All the consoles were technically "winners" last generation. Whether or not that's good in terms of competition is a completely different story.

But in this case, I think we can easily say that the Wii U has lost. There's no way it turns much of a profit, if at all.

The Wii u is selling more (by a lot) than the one right now. The Wii u is also a good amount ahead of the one.

I agree, people can be stupid.

Anything can happen anywhere, even in the console market.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

True, except your talking about a week in which the Wii U has it's first full week with it's biggest release more than likely of this generation while the current week up on the front page is counting the week before a permanent 20% percent discount off the price of the console, and even then it's <50K.

Depends on what your metric for success and failure is. What we consider a commercial success may be considered a failure by a company who expected their product to do better.
