Forums - Gaming - Sonic's Future - Japanese Sonic and American Sonic

There's this article that caught my attention: http://www.licensemag.com/license-global/sonic-new-generation-sonic-boom

It's more or less confirmed now that Sonic will split into two directions. There's the modern (Japanese) Sonic that'll focus on older fans and there's the new Sonic Boom (American) Sonic where the focus is on newer fans and a younger audience.

What specifically catches my eye is the fact that they don't seem to want the Modern Sonic to try to reinnovate Sonic all the time anymore because that Sonic will focus on older fans. Changing how Sonic plays too much has been the case before, for example Sonic Colours VS Sonic Lost World. What I'm expecting here is for Modern Sonic to adapt one gameplay style and not back off from it as much as he did before (As a Sonic fan I PRAY for a Generations like gameplay style), because those risks of changing the gameplay of Sonic games so much each game may go to the Sonic Boom Sonic now. That's just my way of viewing it. If this is sort of how things are going to work out then I still don't know if this will be a success until we've seen some new games for Modern Sonic from Sonic Team. Sonic Boom is probably going to turn out to be more than a spin-off though!

What do you think about this new direction for the Sonic franchise? (Please don't reply if the only thing you've got to say is that Sonic is dead..)

Yeah, Generations was shit, so I hope they don't go back to that. Adventures was worse. Colors was just as bad as Generations. Lost World was the best 3D Sonic, and that isn't saying much because it lost all sense of speed and most importantly momentum. If Sonic Team made a Sonic game like Lost World, but with only 3D stages, no Galaxy-like stage break-ups, and speed that builds with momentum instead of with a button click, it would be the perfect Sonic game. And remove self boost. It literally ruins Sonic games. And the spin dash should absolutely never give you a permanent speed boost. That is NOT why people play Sonic. Get rid of the homing attack. It has no place in a momentum based game. Basically, Sonic Advance 2 is the example by which all Sonic games should strive to be.

And stop putting the 2D games in the 3D games. Focus on them individually.

But they'll never do any of that, so Sonic's dead.

Makes sense to revive the brand. A lot already know Sonic so that helps.

nice

I also heard Ty the Tasmanian Tiger might get a reboot too with games and a show.

nice

Sonic Boom being more than a spin off was obvious from the get go. It was only said it was a spin off so it Would blanket an up roar and just in case it bombs they can pretend it wasnt important. This is all mumble jumble because it assumes boom will popular. You guys know SEGA, if Boom bombs thats it.

Btw new Sonic rumor already dropped. Not Gen or Lost World style

Link?

I am fine with it. I just want a continuation of Generations on PS4 as loved that game. I just want a pure Sonic game in full current gen glory.

Will check out Lost World when I get a Wii U as looks good. Boom I have concerns about in terms of play style feeling like Sonic or not.

That's exactly the problem SEGA created. There's too much different opinions on Sonic. I loved Generations for example. They have to settle on something, and to be honest, I think that a heap of Sonic fans can agree that Generations was at least a good Sonic game. (At least the gameplay, the story is something else..) I'm not saying that I'm certain that they will concentrate on Gen's gameplay, but it's just that not everyone can accept Sonic, that's the thing SEGA doesn't understand, and that's why they keep on making way different games all the time.

Sonic game rumors are pretty much worthless, 80% of them are fake.

More Generations please. It sold well and it got good critical reception. I guess this is smart. They can have their more classic style Sonic and they can also keep doing their weird experiments. Looking at you Lost World and Unleased damn you guys sucked.
