After 7 months, the PS4 is still on a very hot start. I am compiling a list of ideas needed to change the outlook of the PS4 currently (hypothetically of course). These are a couple off the top of my head, please feel free to add more.
1. Start making online multiplayer free again.
Despite implementing a new pay structure for online gaming, the PS4 has found a way to continue to sell pretty well. Maybe removing this paywall and going back to a free system will instill in people minds that the infrastructure is second rate and there are better alternatives out there, thus resulting in lower sales.
2. Start releasing games on time.
Despite multiple delays for a number of high profile titles on the PS4, the system continues to sell well. Sony gamers sure are a patient bunch. Maybe committing to release dates will allow consumers to get a glimpse of their games faster resulting in bad word of mouth thus causing lower system sales.
3. Get their star developers on board
While Sucker Punch, Gorilla Games and San Diego Studios are not house hold names (and tend to be 2nd and 3rd tier developers for them), their games have been the driving force for early success for the PS4. Sony has a couple star developers that can deliver games that will sell a boatload. These include Naughty Dog, Polyphony Digital, Sony Santa Monica and maybe Media Molecule.
4. Turn their focus to Japan:
Japan is games right? Despite the consoles lackluster start after four months there, the system is being well received in the west. Japan as a percentage of total hardware sales for Sony has been on the decline these past two generations but maybe concentrating on the Japanese market and developers will cause a shift from the system selling well in the west to that of Japan (and change its trend from upward to downward).
