I'm talking about CGI that is not part of the game and is made only as a trailer to a game. In-game cinematics are fine. I think I could live with a little CGI alongside gameplay to make the trailer look nice, but nothing like a full on CGI trailer.

This E3 was infested with full CGI trailers during both MS and Sony press conferences. I mean seriously, what exactly is the purpose of these things? They can be rather misleading, but even more so disappointing since they don't show anything about how the game actually looks or plays. I know people are going to say that the devs aren't ready to show gameplay yet, but if you aren't ready to show GAMEplay of your GAME, then you shouldn't be showing your game yet in the first place because evidently it is way too early in the dev cycle.. If you want to showcase the story, use in game character models and/or cutscenes, not CGI trailers.

What do you guys think?

But without full CGI how are they going to pretend that the new generation is better than the last one?

Full CGI-trailers are shameful EXCEPT if they are released alongside a gameplay trailer/after a gameplay trailer.

Nintendo doesn't seem to do much in the way of cgi trailers like other companies do. If they did they could have kicked off he E3 show with a gorgeous cgi trailer for Star Fox when all they really had was a tech demo. There's an honesty there that others should learn from.

Full CGI trailers are akin to someone coming on stage and saying "Please be excited", cos you have no idea what the games going to be like.

Yup.

CGI trailers are perfect for game announcements. That's what the E3 conferences are about. So if anything there should be more CGI trailers during the conferences and then gameplay on the showfloor. It's pretty annoying to watch 20 minutes demos of gameplay during a conference especially if the game is not interesting to you.

If they were CGI showing target graphics and gameplay I think they would be useful. Like how some of the "gameplay" segments during the FFXV reveal were CGI but close to gameplay graphics and showing how the game would play.

As they are usually used, they are quite useless, so I just ignore them.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Banned for what reason? I don't see a problem with it. It's the lot of you who put too much stock in game conventions and buy into the hype of things who are upset when you see CGI trailers.

Also wasn't there like only 2 CGI trailers at the Sony conference? (Dead Island 2 and Bloodborne)
