I only bought Nvida cards because when ATI was bought my AMD they changed how the card drivers and programs worked. Got pissed and never bothered with them again. I just usually stick to the brand that hasn't annoyed me for whatever reason. ANd prices never botehred me because I always bought the last year card thats discounted like crazy anyway.

I prefer AMD because they are easy to overclock and finetune and have more value for the money. However certain games perform much better on Nvidia because of partnerships which is annoying. But there are also cases where it is vice-versa

Perception is always really important, the bigger player must surely be best right why, else would they be number one? Cue vicious circle. AMD need to get mindshare to get the chance to show their cards are better.

I just gotta point out that the older cards are not always a better deal than the newer ones.  For instance the 7850 was the same price as the 6970.  Some people would find that silly untill you realize that the 7850 is a little stronger while using half the energy...
