So the writing is already on the wall : $399 bare SKU is not lighting the world on fire. Microsoft has been much more proactive of late though. I think when they see a few more solid NPD losses headed into the lucrative holiday season they will pull the trigger on some awesome deals. To fail to act would put them hopelessly behind. And don't even try to compare to ps3, Xbox is DOA outside of us/UK, for that matter ps3 never came close to catching up in us install base.

Halo and SO bundles incoming. God knows they'll have spare inventory to work with. In fact that may be the ps4 weakness : insufficient inventory to fully meet holiday demand.

Bold? Microsoft does that every year. I think most people who watch their money know to wait until Xbox does it annual $50 off promotion during the holidays. I know I personally would never buy an Xbox console until the Microsoft subsidized deals roll around.

Depends on the sales. If the X1 continues to not sell very well after the $399 price, then I could see them dropping the price to $349 in the holidays.

Issue with such quick price dropping is it sends a negative message about the product.

Both M$ and Sony always do special bundles around the holidays. In addition to the white PS4 Destiny bundle, you can bet there will be an alternate bundle around Black Friday week with something like The Last of Us Remastered packed in.

Funny how when Sony announces bundles it's smart marketing, but when M$ does the same it's an act of desperation. And when Sony announces special deals with 3rd parties like early betas and exclusive bundles of certain games it's good developer relations, but when M$ does it it's "moneyhatting."

Its all moneyhatting, but theres a huge difference in a PS4 bundle where you save 10 on the game and MS giving away a brand new aaa game where we all know its due to desperation. 

This surelly won't be an issue anymore. Their production rate was 1M units per month after the launch window and it probably is faster now. Currently, they are selling around 0.5M units monthly, so they will have some millions in stock easily for Q4.

So when Sony bundled MGS4 in their original $499 80GB SKU when the game launched, that wasn't an act of desperation?
