Forums - Nintendo - My quick impressions of my new Wii U

So i decided to give my quick impressions of the Wii U.

When a new generation is on the horizon, we see BRAND NEW consoles, correct? So in MY EYES, when looking at brand new consoles, all i see are the BRAND NEW games that are built for the new consoles.

I need BRAND NEW games to go along with my BRAND NEW console that i spent top dollar for. So for example, when i look at the PS4, if a PS4 game is also on the PS3, then i probably wont care all that much about it. So games like Cod ghosts, Tomb Raider or Rayman Legends dont do much more me because i can already play them on PS3. BUT games like Killzone Shadowfall, Driveclub or Infamous Second Son DO catch my eye. Why? Because they are BRAND NEW games built for this BRAND NEW System and generation. Also, i can automatically see the difference in graphics.

Now onto the Wii U, I got the MK8 bundle. It was a fucking STEAL! I got the deluxe black 32gb Wii U( with the Gamepad stand and all that stuff), MK8, a Mario theme'd Wii Mote and a Mario theme'd steering wheel for $330. FUCKING STEAL!!

I wasn't even planning on getting the Wii U yet but I HAD to take advantage of that deal.

I have yet to play Zelda Skyward Sword so now i can pretty much play it on the Wii U and i dont have to worry about getting another Wii.

I also like the fact that there is like litterally a Wii trapped inside the Wii U lol. So in a way, the whole Wii experience is still here.

On the Wii U side of things, everything seems to get the job done. I haven't noticed anything that i really dislike about it and i really dont think i will.

The only 2 things i may have slight concerns about are things that i've heard from other people.

1.) I heard that all downloaded games are tied to your console instead of your Nintendo Network id thingy? So if your console breaks, gets stolen or whatever, you have to rebuy all those games again when getting a new Wii U? If that's true, i hope they change that through an update or something

2.) Supposedly the online is not up to par? Did Nintendo NOT see Sony's online situation last gen? Sony pretty much had to build their online throughout that gen and you mean to tell me thstthat you didn't see this, Nintendo? You were supposed to learn from Sony's mistakes(lol). You were supposed to say " ok we're going to start building our online infastructure RIGHT NOW before our new console comes out because we can already tell just by looking at Sony's situation that it's not as easy as it looks".

Now let's get the games, i have MK8 and i just downloaded NSMBU last night.

After playing these 2 games, i must say that i am SI FUCKING GLAD that i decided to bring in the next gen Nintendo experience with MK8. Mario is looking WONDERFUL in HD. My favorite level right now is Twisted Mansion and i'm loving the music in sunshine airport. I feel content with MK8 being my 1st Wii U game. MK8's graphics are beautiful! I can deal with these kind of graphics on Wii U. If all of Nintendo's games look similar to MK8 then i will be fully content.

NSMBU.... hmmm.

When i switched from MK8 to NSMBU, i will say that i definitely noticed the difference but it didnt bother me that much until i started playing MK8 again. I wad like OMG! Why didn't they make NSMBU look like MK8 or something?

NSMBU looks JUST like NSMB Wii.

If i would have got NSMBU for Wii U 1st, i would've been so fucking dissappointed. I dont even want to think about all those people who got a WII U early on and only got NSMBU. It's like i just spent over $300 on this next gen console and the main game you buy it for(Mario) looks just like the last gen game.

That shit is unnacceptable. It is NOT a good look firfor Nintendo little do people know. I'm so glad i chose to get this for free. I'm not saying it's bad but.. No

For all those people out there who don't have a Wii U and are still pn the fence. PLEEEEEEEEEEAAAASASSSSSSSE do NOT get NSMBU for your 1st game.

Start the new gen off with a REAL next gen Mario game like MK8. Don't set yourselfs up for failure people.

Idk wtf Nintendo was thinking.

But the future is looking good because Super Mario 3D World is another beautiful Wii U game that does it justice.

Splatoon, Captain Toad(whatever it's called) and Zelda U are looking good aswell.

So uhhh yea.. I like it lol

Glad you're enjoying it! Its a great console.

Nintendo doesn't charge people to play online so that's why they can't improve the online experience and have dedicated servers and stuff that Microsoft has and Sony is introducing more of.

I don't understand how Microsoft and Sony online is so superior when compared to Nintendo. What am I missing? Cross game chat? Big fucking deal.

Good to hear you are enjoying the WiiU so far.

In regards to your points about NSMBU:

It is a good looking WiiU game, but it was a launch title. launch titles always suffer, regardless of the console.
And i think it is far more noticeable after playing a brand new release, and quite frankly gorgeous game, like MK8.

MK8 is definitely the game that should have been out at launch, but i cant help but feel if they had released it at launch it wouldnt be anywhere near what we know it as.

Asked myself the same thing. I think the most important thing is the fact that those consoles have third party support thus they have a lot more online games. And their first party games often have online too while there are more important things for Nintendo.

Will definitely be enjoying MK8, Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon online though! So for me all is great :)

Paying 50 bucks per year is another big advantage.

Why didn't you choose WInd Waker HD or Pikmin 3 as download? NSMBU looks unspectacular, but the level design is great, way better than the other NSMB games.

Did you have connection issues with MK8 online? I had problems at the beginning, but it's better now.

To be honest, i feel like Nintendo tried to do it at the last minute. Sony was bringing a lot of features throughout the years to PSN before introducing the paid service.

That had to be what it was. That whole online thing is harder to develop and sustain than it looks on the surface. Wasn't Nintendo going to let somebody else build and maintain their whole online infrastructure? Right before the Wii U came out?

Yea it seems like they fucked around and tried to do everything at the last

You chose NSMBU over Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker? I'm sure that was pretty disappointing. I'm with you, it isn't acceptable when one of your big titles is a game that beyond a higher resolution looks and plays exactly like a last-gen handheld game. I've got a Wii U and I like it, but they need to stop with these 2D platformers. With a new system comes the need for experiences that weren't possible on previous ones. (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Super Mario 3D World are the biggest culprits.)

The old rumor was EA Origin system but EA wanted to much control over Nintendo's online so Nintendo backed out and then EA pulled support after a few old ports and half assed sports games.
