Nah, both America and Canada do not love soccer. It is popular because it is one of the first teams sports in existence and it was spread by the British empire around the world. It is a super easy sport for poor people to play hence also why it is popular in most poor places. Hockey is much younger and is one of the most expensive sports to play period. It is also not an ideal sport at all for warm climates. So this takes away a huge chunck of the world.

Soccer is the most boring team sport to watch and I watch a lot of them. It lacks action, it lacks scoring, it lacks physical contact, and the players are like toothpicks. Not anywhere close to the strong athletes in most American sports. There is more diving in soccer than any other sport. It just plain is only worth watching if it is team USA.

I think it's fairly popular around here. The thing is that Canada's team is horrible so people usually follow the team from their home countries. Jokes on me since my home country is Romania and their team is barely better than Canada's, so I'm just on the go Germany crowd. I don't really follow it though but it can be enjoyable to follow it sometimes especially when you got friends over. American football is just pretty meh and no one cares about it here because hockey season is right after and people go insane.
