Forums - Gaming - Reggie's Seattle Times Interview(reasons for early 2013 game drought inside)

Some of the things he's said, I think it's obvious why he said it that way. He wants Nintendo to look like they're confident and not appear weak, so he's going to work his way around his wording and remain vague or make optimistic predictions. What he personally thinks, on the other hand, might vary a little from how he answers these questions.
Or at least that's my impression on this.

And that's his job.

You have to put the best possible spin on every question.

It will be interesting if Nintendo can can pull a ps3 with the wii u. They do have a ton of first party muscle to get a descent install base. However even if the wii u beats expectations by a lot, it's hard to say how many third party's will come back now, that they are developing for higher end hardware. Wold it even be worth it to port something like the witcher 3 and dragon age to something like the wii u, even though it will look much better on something like the ps4 and even better still on the pc? At least when the ps3 was lagging far, far behind it was still in the same relm as the xbox. But as support for the ps3 and 360 are soon going to stop soon, and the wii u will begin to look like the wii of this generation, getting really watered down port's, of AAA games or nothing at all. I mean 3hird party's could try making something new for the wii u, but who wants to take the risk of making new ip these days ?

That's kind of why I'm wondering why so many people are putting this against Reggie himself.  We don't actually know if those are his honest thoughts, especially given his position at Nintendo.

However, sometimes an honest answer is better PR than an obvious spin.  Gamers are some of the better informed consumers; there is a good chance that someone reading an article like this will know when an answer rings false.

Personally, I would have far more respect for him if, instead of implying that Nintendo has secretly been doing as well as the PS4, admitted that they've performed poorly but believes the situation is already turning around.  Super obvious spin turns me off faster than Piplup in a dress.  Reggie is one of the worst in the industry for that.

Reggie spun that like a boss :). He did a good PR job there.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I would say the more "hardcore" gamers are, but I don't think they are the majority that will be seeing this PR.   While being honest doesn't have to mean disaster, it is also true that someone in Reggie's position could also get in a lot of trouble if he said the wrong thing while not giving a positive PR spin.

Of course I don't know for sure if Reggie DOESN'T believe the things he's said, but the way he talks in the interview is a little evasive so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Aside from the spin about the Wii U's sales fortunes, it was an encouraging read. The takeaway from this E3 is that Nintendo is NOT going to cut and run on the Wii U (that doesn't rule out a successor in 2016, mind, but they've at least got a healthy lineup for 2015 well underway)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Q: Are you going to have to release a next next-generation console in a few years?

A: We don’t think so. We think that the Wii U has a long and vibrant life in front of it. What it needs are games like “Mario Kart 8” and “Super Smash Bros for Wii U” and “Splatoon” — those types of games that can really drive the installed base. We believe if we can do that effectively the Wii U has a long and robust life.

I love to hear that but I'm not sure if I can trust him...

Kind of interesting that he didn't just outright say "no".

He probably chose to word it the way he did to reassure current wiiU owners and potiential wiiU  buyers.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

All I hear from Reggie is a bunch of lies :P
