Forums - Microsoft - What would have happened without the high failure rates?

I think it would help the sales outside america where the support are not as good or inexistant. People don't feel comfortable to buy a thing (expensive, especially outside USA) knowing that it could die and it will not be replaced easially (or not at all).

I am not sure this has affected 360 sales that much, many vivid XBox fans running into issues bought more than one unit (compensation for those still waiting for RRoD issues to be solved). Sometimes affected people sell their old unit for cheap on second hand websites and buy the latest model in hope they are freed from issues (I know several who went from 360 premium to Elite, again suffering similar issues). Most consumers are still unaware of how extensive these issues are.

I think this will mostly affect views on a possible successor Microsoft may launch in the future. Most XBox fans already upgraded towards a 360 due to their platform not seeing any more software support for the last 2 years and all major exclusive XBox titles already saw sequals on the 360. Still millions of XBox users in North America haven't upgraded and I think the bulk of them eventually will. I don't think RRoD will have much of an impact from the long perspective. Only I think many of those fed up by the situation (RRoD, drive wearing, disc cratching) will eventually buy a PS3 or concentrate on PC gaming.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

If there was no RRoD i would own a 360 and hae such great games as Viva Pinata and Castlevania SotN but as it is i never bought one and likely never will i hate the hassle of replacing faulty electronics so i avoid getting in situations where i may need to

ofc it has affected the sales

but A LOT LOT LOT less than if MS would not have improved the warranty as they did.

Actually this is one of their best moves of 07 according to me.

Time to Work !

it does hurt sales, but when does the pizza arrive?

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

My heavens! This post is a classic example of why there should be a rule where a poster needs to have 100 posts before creating a thread.

Folks here are so misinformed it's not funny. It's horrible. Threads like this make it seem like every 360 is a timebomb. What about the PS2 disk read errors? Guess what? Consumers didn't care. It's the games, stupid.

This thread - PHAIL.

The diference between RROD and the PS2's disk read error is that in the case of the DRE, I can open my console up after the warranty and fix it myself using one of the many tutorials online. Once you do it once, you might have to adjust it again, but you'll be faster then your first time. So there is a semi-permanant (EDIT: and safe) home solution to DRE. the same cannot be said for RROD.

The reason I didn't get the original Xbox was because it came into the generation so late and i didn't like the design of the casing (looked to heavy and bulky).

The X360 is a different story, as i like the design of the casing, but the reliability does completely put me off of buying the console. If it wasn't for the RRoD, i would definitely pick one up.

They have got 1 less sale because of me. I would say RRoD has affected sales a lot, as i'm sure there are many others out there who feel the same way as me.

If in future the internal layout is redesigned to fix the problem, i may consider getting one.
