Forums - Gaming - Prediction : Destiny will flop

By the end of 2015, Destiny will reach...

15+ million sales 126 23.42%

10+ million sales 180 33.46%

5+ million sales 140 26.02%

less than 5 million sales 89 16.54%

Total:535

Destiny will do well just being the spiritual successor to Halo alone. The PvP portion of it from the IGN video handles like Halo multiplayer. The bundling, massive marketing and well deserved hype will further ensure it disappoints haters even more than Watchdogs did.

Thanks jlmurph!

Sounds like the same people that said Watch Dogs will bomb. Have you seen the Destiny preorders already? Destiny will be a major success.

ROFL

reminded me of the Wired preview and the hilarious statement : "If your character can dance, it’s an MMO"

Nah, it will be a sucess i am sure, it will sell like hotcakes.
Small vocal minority keeps trashing the game god know why but the majority seems to be excited about this, lots of great press articles talking about destiny yesterday.

by success you mean more than 16 million sales LT ?

Watchdogs sold 4 million its first week. Destiny will sell at least 50% more than that. 6 million first week, 10 million by the end of 2014.

???

It's the opposite of Halo 2 and 3... Those were purely based on skill, symmetry of powers. Destiny is the opposite, you unlock weapons and powers through the SP and then show-off in PvP. And so many of Destiny's skills feel floaty and imprecise (warlock rockets, jetpacks, etc.)

Is going to sell on hype alone, pre-orders are tracking ahead of Watch Dogs and it has Activision marketing push.

Personally I think it looks meh.

VERY early word was mixed. But the latest word on GAF is that even the current limited alpha (like 1% of the final game in scope) is truly awesome. Complaints are minor (on screen indicators/etc).

That's a tough crowd to please so I believe it's got to be solid. Combined with bundles and epic marketing and this is a home run franchise. Remember that even 10m would be a huge success, guaranteed sequel, tons of new content, etc.

i think this game will get call of duty numbers of sales plus i think they will find ways to get money from this game like premium weapon skins, ships and cloths, people love that stuff and will buy tons of that shit.

Also they will keep upgrading and doing DLC, they already said this game is supose to be playable and relevant for years.

I would just like to know what exactly you consider "CoD numbers", 11M+ like CoD5 or 28+ Million like CoD:MW3 ?

Fighter thread? Not surprised that a bungee going multiplatform game would fail, especially with more interest going for the ps4 version.

However, there is historical trend showing that whenever an exclusive has gone multiplatform it was a bad game

Well, hopefully someday you'll realize I have absolutely no preference for a brand.

My opinion on Destiny's success is genuine. The ambition with this game was phenomenal, but it will obviously end up suffering of the duck syndrome : it can fly, it can swim, it can walk, but it isn't exceptionnal at any of them.

The graphical clarity and the universe/story seem top-notch to me. It is really the gameplay that has me worried.

MMO : From what has been shown it is a very light MMO, and the missions are repetitive. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the dynamic aspect of the universe such as the introduction of the Death Star, this is why I might revise my prediction end of June.

And the competitive FPS component where Bungie should have been excellent really has me worried. Destiny is taking the opposite approach to Halo 2 : unbalanced PvP.

This is the same "fighter" that has had a ken avatar forever, right?

To be brief, I feel sales2099 is more accurate about the market, and he would say he does have a preference.

I'm not saying your opinion isn't genuine, I'm just questioning how you got there.

There are a few things I agree with. The action doesn't look all that spectacular to me, but I've only seen that level where they fight in the cave or whatever. Secondly, you should be more careful about using the word mmo. MMO is nearly synonymous in online speak with MMORPG, and this game cannot be called that. Something only becomes repetitive when it becomes boring. You could call anything repetitive, CoD, BF, Dota, Marioparty.

As for the pvp, I'm sure it will be fine. Just because you can upgrade your equipment doesn't mean the pvp is going to suck. I can't even think of a single game that has a "level playing field" anymore. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that a 'level playing field' is a relic of the quake, UT days.

My main problem with your opinion, especially with what you said above, is that you aren't critiquing the game, you are comparing the game to other things and arbitrarily deciding that it sucks. PVP not balanced the way halo 2 balanced things, therefore imbalanced. A portion of the game is all that has been shown several times, therefore repetitive.

But of course, you reserve the right to revise your prediction? Dude. Predictions are important. You can't just revise whatever you said away. Predictions are your word. You want to be cautious? Then don't make predictions....because it's stuff like this that has massaged my perception of you.
