Forums - Gaming - will game developers use the blu-ray in the next consoles?

playstation used: cd

playstation 2 used: dvd

playstation 3 and xbox 360 uses: dvd and blu-ray disk

i know games dont need that much data like blu-ray or hd dvd but since the blu-ray won the format war against hd dvd wouldn't the next consoles all use blu-ray?

Wii uses DVD also.

Probably they will. I read that oblivion in Play Station 3 was made in a Blue Ray disc and because the game itself is not that big, the disc had the information repeated to decrease loading times. I ll try to find a link on that.

I actually wouldnt be suprised if someone used the HD DVD format as it would be cheap to licence and no one would be able to copy the games.

Either way something with the storage space of Blu could be ideal for next gen consoles, who knows what formats will be out by then.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Wii uses a proprietary disk format derived from the DVD... just not to pay fees to the DVD format owners. For this reason Nintendo will probably never use blu-ray but have a home-made "clone" of it made for them by Matsushita.

mmm well , but Nintendo can read DVDs, I friend of mine has his wii modded, and he just buy any DVD-R disc, and once he has the image, burn it, and plays with it.

Wii 2 will use VHS

720 will use Blu Ray

PS4 will use Ultra Supersonic hyper high density definition green Ray video

yes, Blu-ray can have up to 8-layers currently which is 200GBs.

Well Nintendo has always done their own thing so i doubt they will...
I remember right before ps3 launched sony said ps4 wouldnt have any optical media so that means sony wont.
The only possibility left would be xbox. I think the next xbox could possibly use blu ray but most games will be downloads

I agree with this generally.

No, I do not think Blu Ray will be the dominant gaming format next generation, for a variety of reasons. If Blu Ray takes off, then the most significant reason they won't use it is that it's easier to pirate. If Blu Ray doesn't take off, then they may use it.

Also, Digital Distribution. Also, at this point last generation everyone was sure that DVD would be fine for this generation.
