Forums - General - Some manga fans on this site? What are your favourites?

I read lots of manga. I started first year in Highschool, when it became available in swedish. Got hooked on Dragonball first, then Once Piece and then discovered the manga scene on internet. That was so much WOW!

I cannot rightly say how many manga I own currently, but I can say that it's about *counts the boxes standing beside the bed* 4 moving boxes of them . Probably around 500. Definatly more than 450.

My favorite manga... that's a hard one. I usually mention One Piece, Nausicaä
and Yotsubato (they're all brilliant in their respective genre) but my taste is always evolving.

Lately I've been trying to find what I can read by Osamu Tezuka (pheonix, buddha, Astro boy, Adolf)... Need more Tezuka!

Manga is where you can truly find Japan's best talents.

After the Japanese movie industry declined in the 60s (post-Kurosawa era so to speak), most of the greatest creative talents in Japan shifted to the Manga industry.  Anime is a sort of spin-off of this larger trend.

Many titles you guys have listed are aimed for high-teens, which is fine in their own right.  But if you're in the 20s or above, there still are a great number of manga that adults can enjoy.

For instance, as some of you have mentioned, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. By far, the manga version of Nausicaä is superior to the anime in almost every way.

The manga version of Nausicaä is a 7-volume epic story which Miyazaki spent over 12 years to develop.  The manga is incredibly more complex, tragic, richer, darker, more compelling, and thought-provoking than the anime version.

It deals with broader issues such as the frightening and yet forgiving essences of mother nature, and the conflict and coexistence between human/technology on one hand and animals/environment on the other.

Politically, it deals with the tragic consequences of our lust for domination and our power-seeking in the name of "security".

But it also involves personal issues such the little girl's determination and devotion to save the lives of not just her fellows but also of her enemies and animals.

It's just a fantastic epic story.  Just a tip for adults who are open-minded and are up for some wonderful Manga experience.

Yes it is teh Aw350m3n355!1!! ^_^
Im on volume 33 already

anyone here read Hajime no ippo, I plan on reading the manga on where the anime ended, but I dont know on what volume to start.
='( help?

Well maybe it's a little late, but I'm pretty sure the anime ends in the mid-20's for the manga. Though I'm pretty sure the anime special occurs before the Ippo's first title defense(the anime was released the other way). Anyway, it's a great comic series and my favorite of all time. I've read all of them up to the current book (book #83 :D )

OT: other comics I enjoy/enjoyed are: Vagabond, Real, Death Note, DMC (Detroit Metal City), older ones like Dragon ball, Dr. Slump, some Dragon Quest comics. My gf kind of got me into Detective Conan though I haven't had time to read past the first few books. (note: all of my comics are in Japanese)

Nice, another Nausicaä lover. :) Yes, the manga is brilliant. You just say it so much better than I could.

If you like the adult manga, did you read Osamu Tezuka's more adult works? I haven't been able to get a hold of them (and now I'm broke...).
