Forums - Gaming - Are Final Fantasy 10 fans hypocrites?

I guess this is too subjective to be discussed. But about the music, I have to admit I haven't seen a lot of people claiming it's bad.

Wandering, Fleeting Dream, To Zarnakand, Assault/Attack, Final Battle, Silence Before The Storm, Ending Theme...

Also, it has a LOT of diversity, from the "latino" vibes to the Japanese culture inspired themes, including some blues here and there...

I don't really know how it could be better than it is.

I'd say that variety is also FFXIII's soundtrack biggest strength. You have the epic orchestral pieces (Fighting Fate, Blinded by Light), there are some rock tunes (Defiers of Fate, Snow's theme), blues (Sazh's Theme, Daddy Got the Blues), even bossa nova is thrown in there (The Yaschas Massif).

For all the time people spent bashing on XIII, I think they're missing a great soundtrack.

I'm not really a fan of any post FFIX FF. The characters look too much like boy band singers ... bleh. Not sticking around for 60 hours N Sync in Fantasy land.

I'm in the "both games are garbage" camp too and I've thought about it several times as well.

Oh great you've awakened the FF fanbase. They're all already as agitated as sex deprived apes because of the lack of FF15 this E3, now you've poked them with a stick and they're ready to bite. Even as a huge FF fan I believe it has the absolute worst game fanbase; with them hating on any iteration of the series they dont like. If you like 9 you hate 7, if you like 10 you hate 12, etc etc. It is a very hateful fanbase due to the series being very different every release.
Anyway, 10 is my fave FF but I dont hate 13. Nothing really wrong with it, talk to the average person who bought it they'll say they liked it, it is really only on the internet where you'll find the people who detest the FF13 series. People hate on 10 here too, but in reality it is probably the second most popular entry to the series only behind 7.
Both are linear, but one came before the other,
so it is slightly more excusable because it was new at the time. However, older FFs were pretty linear too, the only difference is that before we had the illusion of non-linearity because the map made it seem like we could go wherever.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but I have enjoyed every FF I have ever played EXCEPT FFXIII. It is not really a crowd thing, because I did not really roam the internet when I got FFXIII. My roommates first FF that he played was FFXIII. He hated it and thought all FF were bad because of it. Then he played FFVII. Which he did not hate but did not particularly enjoy. And now hes playing FFX and enjoying it.

@people saying the combat was the best part of FFXIII. I disagree as it was mostly Auto battle. The soundtrack was probably the best, even bad games can have a good soundtrack.

So why am I questioning Final Fantasy 10 fans being hypocrites?  If you also like Final Fantasy 13, or like me you think both games are garbage,

If you consider both of them garbage, why the heck do you even bother? Go play some FPS crap.

Oh, and although I liked both games (more FF Xobviously), it has been well explained already  why FF X doesn't suffer the same issues of FF XIII.

Around the Network

FFXIII is worse than X in almost every aspect. From the; story, characters, to the minigames and level design. I can't comment much on the battle systems other than its just.. different (I liked the fluidity of the paradigm system in FFXIII).

Both games are indeed quite linear. FFX has towns for you to rest up in and allows you to other things, should you wish to take a break from progression. Something which is not possible in FFXIII. Also, with the latter being a lot more linear until you reach a certain point in the game - though this personally didn't affect on my enjoyment of 13. Adding to that, customisation in X with the sphere grid was so much more comprehensive and expansive in the way you could build your characters than what you given with 13.

With that said I enjoyed both games, despite their quirks. I just liked FFX more. For me, FFX is the better game, though it still pales in comparison to the older titles, in the pre-Squeenix era.

For those hear that defend FFX have you bought it on Vita? (PS3)?

Al Bhed Magazines and Jecht Spheres are more than nothing I suppose. But I don't see much difference between pointless collectibles and nothing really.

The NPCs are more interesting than XIII, but that doesn't make them good at all. Both games have virtually no npcs - they're like zombies. Personally, I couldn't care less, as NPCs rarely have anything interesting to say in any game. I always felt they're a waste of time.

And all FFX's minigames suck. Blitzball is atrocious, chocobo racing is frustrating, doge-200-thunders-thing is just ridiculous. Between the hunts and the terrible mini-games of FFX, I'd choose the hunts anytime. Even nothing would be better really.

And story and characters remaing subjective. I can find plenty of people who enjoy the plot and cast of XIII, myself included.

Like I said though, hate XIII all you want. I just think you need legitimate reasons (I'm not saying you don't have good reasons to dislike the game). "Auto-battle" and linearity just sound silly to me.

I don't hate XIII, I platinumed it. And I never once mentioned auto-battle. You don't even know whay you are arguing with me, do you?

Your post reads like "I don't like the things you mention, so they don't count towards adding variety".

I didn't mention auto-battle implying that you complained about it. I think it wasn't very clear the way I said it, so I'm sorry. Also, I did have the impression you disliked XIII so... sorry about that too.

And about variety... well, you could argue there's variety, but... "dodging 200 thunders"? "Get a 0:0 time on the chocobo race"? Blitzball? C'mon, BLITZBALL? It had a lot of potential (as in "oh man, a sports minigame! Should be pretty fun!"), but then it just... sigh.

Do people really want variety SO MUCH that even mediocre or bad side stuff is acceptable? Tasks that are not even fun, but are included just to say "hey, it's more than battles"? I really think I'm sounding too fanboy-ish here, but the amount of people mentioning these things as some of the "qualities" of FFX completely baffles me.

How do you know that most people who have played Final Fantasy 13 hate the game?
On the Internet? Sure, it has become a cool thing to do to bash it. That was not the case when the game was released, the internet warriors developed this attitude a few months after release and it became common. Edit: SE terrible reputation didn't help either, they made some of the worst decision in the recent years. People were hating on SE through XIII.

It is a good game with its share of flaws.

Please don't talk for all of us, FF13 is garbage and we fans knew it when we played it. I fucking love Square they still make great RPGs but for portables.

I'm just voicing my opinion. I hate to use metacritic in my arguments but garbage games don't score 83. The vast majority praised the combat system but now everyone is bashing on that too. It's growing quietly. I suggest you read about the psychology of crowd.. It is just like the fluster cluck. Sad, but true xD

Thats why I don't trust metacritic or any reviewer after FF13, I play the games and FF13 was the most dissapointing game ever for me, didn't even read a forum to avoid spoilers and same thing with all my brothers and friends who played it, I was actually shock that it reach a 8/10 but fans know the truth.
