Forums - Microsoft - The "truth" about GTA4 Xbox360 DLC

Microsoft has to learn that they can't buy a victory in the console war, yes in America , they will blow away the ps3 version, but Europe will be all ps3.

  • Microsoft knows that GTA3 is the game that pretty much gave the PS2 so much success.
This is false.

It was the PS2 that gave GTA3 and the GTA series at large so much success. GTA3 and GTA:SA, and GTA:VC, were released on the PS2, which was selling extremely well without it, had far broader appeal, and was much cheaper. There's also the fact that these games were released during the holiday season.

The DLC isn't going to make a bit of difference. The general gaming public doesn't give a damn about Xbox Live, much less DLC that's going to cost extra money. Also, the 360 isn't selling nearly as well as the PS2, doesn't have the same broad appeal, and is far above mass market price point. GTAIV is also going to be released in April where its effects on console sales will be limited.

I've got both a ps3 and a 360.

Buying for the ps3.

Well, if you want to make sure you'll have less available DLC, then you're definitely making the right move.

I know I likely won't be renewing my Gold membership when it runs out in June. The only game I ever played on it for any real extent was Settlers of Catan and none of my friends play it anymore. The only reason I'd have to keep the membership would be to not have to wait for demos, so I could compare multi-platform games before they're released. I'm not really willing to pay $50 a year for that.

You don't need gold to download updates or content. You just can't play the multiplayer portion.

I own both he consoles. I'll prob buy the 360 version. Not for the dlc but because me and my friends will play online. And for the achievements. Kill that hoe - 100 gamerscore!

once again, the DLC will only matter to really hardcore gamers. like, completionists.

look at it this way, the "inferior" ps3 version will probably (going by previous installments in the series) take 40 hours to beat (straight shot) and double that to do everything there is to do. Even if it's not the "complete" version, it's not like it won't be substantial in size.

Just imagine GTA is a possible shiffter for a big part of the PS2 owners that may not have buy a next gen console.
Now just consider advertising the game for the Xbox360 will make people think :

"I want to play GTA, so I will buy a Xbox360 for the complete experience"

I agree that is still a lot of money but well, in the long term it could paid

I am asking my self what Sony will do

I am betting that Sony will hope that consumers will know that for less money than an elite, people can get a PS3. And that A blue Ray Player is inside of it. And that online play is free!

Probably won't even be too hard of a decision either.

I am asking myself what Microsoft will do.

Im sorry I couldn't resist.

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

...and I'll still be getting GTA4 on the PS3.

Theres no hard evidence of anything yet. Everything is just pure speculation. I really dont see the DLC being that huge because it would cripple any 360 Arcade/Non-HDD users, and I dont' think Microsft would do that.

For now, My mind is definatly on the PS3 version, the only way that will change is if the DLC is HUGE

I'm well aware that the 360 version will sell a lot more simply because 1) Obviously theres more 360 owners 2) Exclusive DLC

Personally, some small DLC doens't attract me... but o well, pointless having a discussion about this until we have some hard evidence.
