Luigi looking at the doubters of the Wii U design

Yesterday was a good day for Nintendo. No, last weekend was a good start for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 launch on their newest homeconsole, Wii U, has not only pulled and impressive figure of 1.2M copies sold throught consumers including digital sales, but also did what other games failed to do: move consoles.

According to the tracker sales VGChartz, Nintendo went from a weekly average of 35k hw to 187k hw with an impressive boost of 550% and almost reached the console leader weekly sales , Sony PS4, despite the new Ubisoft game released, Watch_Dogs.

Last year big bet for holiday season was Super Mario 3D World, after some other minor games like The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3 and The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD. Unfortunately, the game gave the impression nothing will help the console and its design was its own enemy.

Now, Mario Kart 8 sales is suficient to prove games was the problem of the console. People want big games that looks and play impressive on the first HD Nintendo console and not Wii sequels with higher resolutions.

E3 is around the corner, and games like Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, X from Monolith Soft, Super Smash Bros for Wii U and other unnanounced games have the mission to sustain the initial boost the console is getting with Mario Kart 8. This is a clear message for Nintendo: we want this kind of games.

This E3 is still a big chance for Nintendo to prove the Wii U. I hope I'm not going to end up disappointed,

Mario Kart was a good start, but they need to see the numbers and pull out a lot of great games to sustain the boost.

And if they do, I don't really see a reason for why it is 'too late', considering that so many people don't even know what a Wii U is. Nintendo's already behind hardware-wise, so whatever.

Hopefully they aknowledge this and do more impressive games. We need unique games for this console and I'm sure people will buy if the games they want are released.

It was so good to see people are willing to buy a console if the games they want are released, and those figures are positive enough to give hope for Nintendo. But they need to be smart and that's the part I fear.

You know Nintendo has done something right when Pavolink makes a positive thread! I just hope they can sustain the hw sales

The question is how many. I haven't bought one yet even though I want Smash. If there was some sweet extra 3rd party back-up I would've bought a Wii U already, but we all know that there's just not a lot of 3rd party support.

Well due to console design it's harder for third parties to bring games to the system. Now nintendo has to fill gaps from almost 0 third party support...let's see how long this positive sales last..
