Forums - Sales - Watch Dogs' successful launch is why a 3rd party should not go exclusive like Titanfall.

Watch Dogs PS4 in the US sold 977k whereas Titanfall Xbox1 globally sold 902k in the 1st week.  Currently, Titanfall is at 1.8 million on xbox1 and 0.76 million on xb360 for total around 2.5-2.6 million.  I'm guessing Titanfall will sell about 7 million lifetime on consoles (4.5 million on xbox1 and 2.5 million on xbox360;  I'm not including PC digital because no one knows).  Watch Dogs sold about 4 million (this probably includes PC digital which no one tracks) in the 1st week (PS4 alone globally is probably around 1.8 million in the 1st week which may beat Titanfall xbox1 current lifetime total), so I'm guessing Watch Dogs will end up at least 15 million lifetime on consoles  (6.5 million on PS4, 4 million on xbox1, 2.5 million on xbox360, 2 million on PS3).

Hypothetically (yes, I'm sure some will bring up that MS funded respawn or PS4 currently has a larger install base), if Titanfall was released on all consoles, I bet Titanfall would get close to doubling its sales total.  Instead of 7 or 8 million lifetime total, it could have been 15 or 16 lifetime total.  Respawn missed out on 6 or 7 million additional sales which potentially is about (6 million * $50 average sale price) $300 million dollars in revenue.  Not sure how much MS gave Respawn, but it doesn't make up in $300-400 million dollars in lost revenue.  Personally I think Titanfall is a better game than Watch Dogs (I'm also sure lots will disagree).

I do not think anyone can argue about that :)

Titanfall is a very bad example tho. It went exclusive because Microsoft basicaly founded the game... Without Microsoft, Titanfall would simply not be here. It is not a matter of how much they give vs how much they get in return (or the potential) but more go or no-go for the whole project.

3 or 4 weeks in it was announced Titanfall has sold 900k on PC and XBO. Those numbers only included the US, physical copies, non bundles, non digital etc.

Titanfall sold very well.

Sony has third party exclusives as well.

And I believe Microsoft helped RE with the game, via some funding, free dedicated servers, etc. It wasn't a contract game like Sunset Overdrive.

Some people really don't forget about this game not being on PS4.

But I have to agree that it would have sold at least twice as much if it was on PS4.

I still can't call TitanFall exclusive cause to me, exclusive means on one platform and not 3 but I do see your point

Have we all forgotten that if it was for Sony, titanfall would not be in existence?

This is a very poor example using titanfall as bait

Praise the One.

Just imagine Microsoft exclusive if it makes you happy

Titanfall is a bad example. Were it not for MS's deal then TF may never have actually been made. Thanks to TF's sales and that deal Respawn should now have plenty of money for future games, so TF's partial exclusivity benefited us more in the long run that it did negatively impact anyone in the short term.

There are also two sides to your argument that have to be considered. On one hand, yes, going exclusive (or partially) does remove a large chunk of potential sales. On the other hand it gives the developer financial security with that games development, which can allow them to make something more risky (Sunset Overdrive and Heavy Rain being good examples).

Horrible example, Titanfall is a completely different situation than Watch Dogs. Plus it would have costed much more develop for three different platforms. Titanfall has sold over 2 million on Xbox One alone, it did great.
