Forums - Gaming - Dead Rising 3 is Coming to Steam

If you own a high end PC, you're a PC gamer, regardless of whether if you own a console.  Most consoles gamers don't own a gaming PC.   As an analogy, I'm sure most console or PC gamers also have a smartphone/tablet/iPad and play casual games on those platforms, but I'm sure the console/PC people don't call themselves iPad/android/mobile casual gamers.  However, there are lots of people (1 billion people that downloaded Temple Run or the millions that download flappy bird) that are casual gamers, but don't own a console/PC.  Casual gamers and video gamers are not the same market.  PC gamers and console gamers are not the same market.  Similarly, there were many casual/family (Mom and Pops) gamers that bought a Wii, but won't buy a Wii U.  Not the same market.

Ps4 games will eventually make it over to ps now at some point in time. It might not be within a year or 3 but they will just like ps3 games are. It increases the chances of making more money from games that didn't sell well. It is a smart way of doing it but in the end it is a similar thing as bringing xbox games to pc. You dont need a ps console to play games on ps now and that is the bottom line.

PS Now uses PS3s to stream the games, PS3 cannot play PS4 games, when the PS5 comes out PS4 games will start appearing on PS Now ideally. PS now allows the PS4 to have backwards compatibility, PS4 games cannot be played on PS Now QED.

PlayStation wants to sell hw, PS Now is intended to add value to the console, not take it away.It provides sw accesibility to consoles they either don't manufacturer any more or beginning to phase out. The sw sales they weren't getting because the PS4 and PS3 are backwards compatibile, they will now get, but PS Now will not hamper PS4 sales directly.

Xbox One exclusives on PC does.

Its that simple.

...and tv's and "other devices"

Defeats the whole purpose of buying a ps console since you can stream them on a tv or other devices. (which are not ps consoles)

^You keep denying it, it won't make it false.

He's right you are comparing 2 different things. PS Now is about games past that will not sell anymore, Dead Rising is a new game that was one of the reasons to purchase the X1.

What i am trying to explain is that both are the same thing because those exclusive games are being brought to other devices. Xbox exclusives are coming to pc and ps exclusives are coming to other devices via ps now. Of course those games are older but its the exact same thing going on here.

Yes, streaming a game is the same as getting a superior version on the other platform....

You fail to see the whole picture.

Where will you be able to stream these games from ps now? A ps console only? or some other kind of device?

DR3 is coming to pc. Last of us is coming to ps now and if you can stream that game from a non ps device then it is clearly the same thing just done differently. Isn't ps now coming to tv's?

i love that you sound so sure but you dont even have all the proper info yourself

Most people using Windows aren't doing it for gaming. Regardless, many millions of people game on Windows. That's definitely not an audience MS wants to ignore and that's why we're seeing increased support and encouraging gamers to stay on Windows.

Its pretty much a guarantee MS will be porting more games and they'll be available on Steam. It impact will have little impact, just like 360 ports had little if any impact.

It doesn't matter if Steam gets money, they deserve it. Steam single handedly revitalized gaming on Windows. Now MS needs to make moves to discourage gamers from moving away from Windows.

If MS pays less for exclusives by allowing publishers to put them Windows, they're smart to do that. Especially if they don't allow those games on any other OS but Windows.

The issue is MS isn't really benefting from having games on Windows. This is evident by MS' attempt at Games for Windows Live.

MS is not porting games to Windows. They are allowing them to be published to Windows, probably because they did not pay for full exclusivity. Steam is the vendor not MS, they don't make royalties of off games on Windows in contrast to games on Xbox. The 360, had the multiplat advantage and was the dominant console in the US, the XB1 has neither of those things. It has to compete on exclusives, having them avaliable on PC lessens the value of the console.

Steam is cross-platform, it sure as hell isn't helping MS more than its really helping itself and PC Gaming was more on Windows alone before Steam; i.e Steam has caused gaming to proliferate on Linux and Mac as well.

Windows is not helping Xbox, more or less.

Exclusivity to Windows platform literally means nothing, most PC gamer will agree, that like saying my car exclusively uses energy to run.

you keep saying PS consoles, and I keep telling you that the hardware that plays these games natively, with the exception of the PS3 which is being phased out, is not manufactured any more. It also does not include the current console the Playstation 4, AS PS4 GAMES WILL NOT BE ON PS NOW, UNTIL PS5 IS LAUNCHED, YOU NEED A PS4 TO PLAY PS4 GAMES, the tv's and "other devices" that they allow the streaming to be on will supplement the software sales that they can longer recieve because the consoles aren't manufactured anymore.
EDIT: TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE CLEAR, PS NOW MEANS THAT YOU DON'T NEED A PS2/PSP/PS1/PSX?/ and eventually PS3, to play the PS games on those systems, IT GIVES THE PS4 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY THROUGH STREAMING, IF YOU BUY A TV WITH PS NOW, YOU CAN PLAY PS2/PSP/PS1/PSX?/ and eventually PS3. A PS4 IS REQUIRED FOR PS4 GAMES.

^^^See it the way you want as there is no point of discussing this with you.

Yeah, and you clearly don't see it.

You know that not everyone has acces to the internet?

You know that not everyone has a good internet connection? which is a must for streaming.

You know that there is latency?

That is exactly what my whole point is. I was not talking about the ps4. I was talking about the ps3 console. You can buy a tv to stream ps now games so you wont need a ps3 for that. And that was my whole point all along. Ps games are coming to other "platforms"

They are phasing out the PS3, they are trying to encourage sales of its successor, hence why they are taking value from the PS3 and giving it to the PS4.

This is also the reason why it doesn't matter with 360. XB1 does not have the position to be allowing this, and possibly the only benefit MS sees from this is that they spend less on console exclusives, at the expense of decreasing the console's value, which ironically, is the entire point of securing exclusives for the system in the first place. When the XB2 is out, all of XB1s exclusives can go to the OUYA even, right now, it doesn't make sense from a console manufacturers perspective.

MS just didn't pay enough, to do this deliberatly would be asinine.
