Is this a repeat of the 6th generation?

Right now at this point, it seems like Sony is rocketing ahead of the competition and Nintendo and Microsoft are battling for 2nd place. Does this sound familiar? Yes, pretty much exactly 6th generation. Here are 6th gen results by the end of the gen. (not dreamcast since it was discontinued pretty much as soon as the actual generation started so it's not fair to include it)

1. PS2- 155million

2. Xbox- 24million

3. GCN- 22million

It's slightly too early to tell if Sony will dominate this bad again. I don't think it will be as big of a gap. After seeing Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 numbers, if Sony does monolpolize the market again. I think Nintendo will be 2nd instead of 3rd.  But I think it will be close between Xbone and Wii U. I think Wii U will sell inbetween anywhere from 35million-55million. You never know. Microsoft and Sony's is a bit harder to predict. (These numbers are probably not what's going to happen it'sjust IMO. Leave comments below and let me know if you think this will be a repeat of 6th generation.

Kind of like the 6th gen as far as order, as least according to my guess, but they will be spaced out a bit more. My guess is by the end of the gen it will look like this

Ps4 100-120 million
Xbox one 70-90 million
Wii u 20-40 million

Not really. Gergroy has the right idea.

My LTD predictions:

PS4: 120-130 million
Xbone: 40 million
Wii U: 40 million

Xbox has a relatively strong fanbase now, so I doubt it's gonna sell as badly as the first Xbox.
Nintendo still has their exclusive hits.

There is no way MS if going to make a profit with just 40 million sales. After this gen, I expect Microsoft to leave the industry, as the only way they can hope to make a profit next gen is if they double their consoles sold, and the only way that could happen is if SONY screwed up like how they did on the PS3, but since SONY already learned their lesson last-gen, it's doubtful that it's going to happen again.
Seeing that there's no hope of ever making a profit, Microsoft will make their leave.

I honestly don't think the ps4 will make it to 150 million and I do think the x1 will sell more than 20 million but apart from that, the order seems pretty right atm

Unless Sony royally fucks up, there is no reason the ps4 shouldnt be #1

They xbox division reported a profit in their first quarter with the xbox one on the market... Also units sold do not equal profit...

The division containing the Xbox division reported a profit. Xbox division alone wasn't reported in MS's financial statement and the losses are probably covered up through Android licensing fees.

Also, units sold may not equal profit, but that figure will determine net profit. Units sold will determine 3rd party support, net profit made through software royalty fees, online subscription fees.

LOL not even close. The only thing similar at the end of the day might be the Wii U and GC's final numbers.

All the major 3rd party exclusives that Sony had during PS1 and 2 era are all multiplatform now... at the start of this gen Sony lost their last 2 major 3rd party exclusives, MGS and Kingdom Hearts (on consoles). Sony no longer has system sellers like GTA only on their console. This is the #1 reason why Sony was in 3rd place for nearly all of last gen.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

So you are guessing that the xbox division is losing money then?

Units sold does not determine net profit at all (same thing as saying it doesnt equal profit by the way).  It may be a factor in determining third party support, but more important factor is ease of porting games from the leading console (in this case very easy, the x1 wont ever lose third party support, ps4 might get some third party exclusives though).

it does affect the gross income of the division and total license fees and subscriptions.  Thats true.  Still, you dont need to sell tons of hardware to make a profit.  The gamecube was profitable from day 1 and was profitable for nintendo.  It only sold 20 million units.

You are saying profit, but you are refering to revenue.  All that matters in the end is the bottom line, did they make more money then they spent.  Microsoft can easily make more money than they spent even if they only sell 40 million units.  Thats all I am saying

I don't think it will dominate that bad but will dominate nonetheless.
