there is an entire generation growing up who won't buy a console.. face it.. console gamers will go extinct.. not that the AAA console game industry will last that long.. we all be playing "indies" which all can be powered on mobile devices..

Sorry, but wrong. Some of those kids in that generation you're referring to may well have tablets. But a LOT of them have also had DS/3DS, Wii/Wii U, Xbox, Playstation, etc.

Kids like video games. And actual game systems (with actual controls beyond shitty touch screen input), ALWAYS have the best video games.

That is never going to change.

"Will the tablet/smartphone replace consoles?"

Yes, if we talk about handheld/portable consoles then I do think so. It has already happened, more or less. Gaming on phones has never been this big, and some of the games we see today on smartphones are really good.

In the future, perhaps as early as the next generation of portable consoles the smartphones will have taken a large part of that industry. If Nintendo and Sony will still make a new handheld system? Perhaps. But I think that might be the very last generation. If we talk about true handheld gaming.

Nintendo has spoken of a "portable-and-home-console-in-one" as their next project. So if this shows to be true then no, it won't be affected by the smartphone market of gaming.

In short for those who are lazy: Smartphones will take marketshare from the handheld gaming industry but not the home console market.

Consoles will not be taken over by apple or tablets etc...I for one h8 using a touch screen as a controller and I'm sure I'm not alone.. It's good for games like fruit ninja of course but who can sit and play that for days like skyrim or final fantasy...yeah didn't thinkso.

I agree, that portables(DS/Vita) will suffer or die completely in the near(2-4 years) future.

THere will be some dedicated devices, but they will sell in very small numbers compared to recent years.

Nah iPad's can never rival a new playstation/xbox in power. Especially now with systems like the PS4 already being profitable they can release new systems more frequently.

The Wii-U as a console with tablet controller however is doomed, if it wasn't already besides some strong first party titles. Wouldn't suprise me if the next iPad rivals the WIi-U in power.

ipads sure cant, but windows tabs will beat the xbone soon, the cpu is allready stronger(same goes for ps4, the i5 is just a beast) and the gpu will get there soon with intel putting shitloads of mney behind that.

nintendo is the only safe because of the firstparty games.  ms is the weakes in the bunch, they cant keep up with the other 2 and have to put down a lot of money to buy short wins with exclusiv 3rd party games.

Check your numbers, the CPU -is not- stronger, unless the PS4's CPU is a potato. Tablet i5's are low voltage, and slower than most standard laptop i5's by a significant margin. The i7's are slower as well. So the PS4 is likely more powerful in the CPU department. Windows tablets will not be getting any dedicated GPUs soon, and they won't be equalling or even rivaling consoles with the intel integrated graphics on the tablet processor die. The Intel HD graphics are underclocked on those for power saving.

All of your points are technically correct.  And, I will point out that you are the first person to really state the obvious difference in the CPUs.

BUT, you are comparing todays tablet processors to the PS4.  The power of the orignal ipad or 4 year old tablet compared to today is quite different.  The 1st gen tablets were extremely weak.  THe currrent ipads/android tablets have exponentially more power.  The chip industry has put its full force behind creating tech advancements for tablets/smartphones.  The bigger breakthroughs will really be seen in 2-3 years.  If you read my updated thoughts in the OP, you can see what I am talking about.

Never totally, games need something more tactile than a touch screen and more real estate than 11 inches once you reach a certain level of depth. If, hell when tablets match console power however soon that may be, covering half the screen to press vauge buttons is gonna hide those lovely graphics. If a tablet ships with a controller and they push the fact it can plug into a TV then it's just a console anyway and you've gone full circle. Sitting infront of a fifty inch LED with a controller that fits firmly in your hand, or with your VR headset on ;p it's just a more fulfilling experience, plus that same box can stream Netflix and the like to your big screen, they just fill different slots.

Using "Airplay" you can watch whatever is on you tablet on your big screen TV.  Just add a Bluetooth controller and BAM!  you have the exact experience that you are talking about.  You don't have to be limited to the tablet controls or screen size.  This is a current capability on the ipads, not sure about other tablets.

I know all that, what i'm saying is that that is turning it essentially a console, as that is the only way to play deeper games on the device, espeically if they sell it as such. Having one single device seems like it would work on paper, but having more than one is well within most peoples budgets and can be fare more convinent. Are you a ipad fad or did you just not read thoughly?

That's the whole popint.  Why would you need to go buy a console if the tablet that you own already can do what a console does.  Why have another "special" device to just play games (console) if you already have a tablet that can do it?

Today, that isn't practical yet, as the tablets(whether its an ipad or Samsung or Surface) aren't there technically.  But in a few years, they will be close enough for MOST people.  That will be the point where consoles will meet their demise.  Sure, maybe 1 company or 2 will produce a console, but the whole console market will be 20-30 million buyers.  The rest will be the casuals that find the "close enough" is fine by them...

Another thing you need to think about. Since you want an all in one device. You won't be able to fully multi task anymore. If your tablet repalces your TV, PC, and game system. You won't be able to do a lot of those things at the same time. Then charging the device all the time will start getting tiresome. It's good in theory. Because you don't have to keep track of a lot of stuff. But in the long run, it could start getting redicluess.

And consoles can easily survive by a simple factor. Refusing to put their most wanted games on IOS or Android. Nintendo will keep selling handhelds just because they have Pokemon etc. Kids will always see ads for games. And will want them. Along with their IOS games. Regardless of tablets. There are people who will not switch over. Like there are people who still buy CD/DVD/BD because they want to own. If the market makes money to support itself. Whatever Netflix or Apple does won't matter. It's the same logic when People always call the Gamecube and Wii a failure. Yes they failed for the consumers wants in more features and modern tech. But both didn't fail making profit to keep Nintendo going. A thing really fails if both consumer image and profits are lost.

I like my consoles. But my most used unit is Ipad air or my tabletts PC and not my highend PC, ps4 or xbox.
Still I hope consoles and highend PC gaiming will prevail. I hate shitty games like Candy crush and hope avanced rpg games are made. Give me a turnbased good wrpg and i will buy it !

Naturally, but first year console games are drastically different from final year console games too. Tablets may very well overtake consoles in power, but they've got to manage heat, power consumption, and a host of other issues along with increasing performance.

we are talking about a small part of the tablet market. x86 tabs arnt cheap and its just windows (im not totaly sure).

Arm tabs are a lot weaker and cant play PC games, x86 tabs can. an they will win the tab market, because intel is the biggest fish and they are heavily focused an x86.

and there are some realy strom tabs. razer has one thats around the xbone in power, but its not cheap atm.

Dude don't make me laugh. You've got only a tiny inkling about computer hardware. Razer Edge? LOL. That's using a 640M LE. That LE? Means it's less powerful than a regular 640M. Btw, the 640M is less powerful than the GPU in the Xbox One, and the CPU ain't no great shakes either. Another one of the low power i5's that are only about as good as AMD's low power offerings. Intel is making great strides, but claiming that the craptastic Razer Edge is anywhere near the performance of an Xbox One is funny. Not to mention the awful battery life on that thing. I think it's somewhere between 1-2 hours using the GPU to game? That costs the whole benefit of having a tablet, the portability.

You're right about most ARM processors being weaker than similar x86, but not all. Intel's struggling to get the right performance from their low power CPU/GPU combo's, and higher end ARM processors used in tablets are still neck and neck for performance. Android has support for x86 processors, and a few tablets even use them. I think the Dell Venue 8 has one (not the Pro, so you don't look up the wrong one). They can't play 32 bit games, that's true. iOS, last I knew, is switching to 64 - bit. Windows tabs are nice, I own one, and like it, but I don't know that they'd ever outsell the casual crowd buying iPads and Android tabs. Windows 8 is a great OS, imo, for tablets. Decent on desktop, and that's what I run on my computer, but only decent.

By the way, Windows tabs like the Dell Venue 8 Pro and Lenovo whatcha-ma-callit are 32-bit for around $220. That's pretty darn cheap. Most people don't want Windows on their tablets though, or so the sales figures claim.

On a related note, why are you still arguing this? You keep giving faulty information. I'm not trying to be rude, but you keep coming back with incorrect stuff over and over.
