PSP Finally Reaches the End of its Long Career as Sony Pushes the PS Vita
After almost ten years of honored service, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia announced today that shipments of the dear old PSP will be discontinued in Japan starting today.
In order to facilitate the passage to the PS Vita, Sony also implemented a trade-in program offering a discount for the purchase of the new console (3,000 yen, and 4,000 for students) on its own official Japanese store.
In addition to this, two new “Super Value Packs” for the PS Vita 2000 have been announced for release on July 10th, including the console in two colors (red/black or blue/Black), a 8 GB memory card, the protective film, a pouch and a suite of pre-installed software for 18,980 yen (plus tax).
A limited quantity of the same package including an OLED-equipped crystal black PS Vita 1000 will be also sold for 19,980 yen plus tax.
