It will be the discounts that makes a difference. If it was just the discontinuation there wouldnt be a difference in the short run. Then it would just be when they lost their psp or it broke down that people would have to upgrade instead of getting another. That wouldnt do a difference woth more than 100 units weekly.. With thos however i could definitely see a bost of up to 1k per week in japan for the foreseeable future.
Marginal boost, but it will help that 300-500k PSP owners who are still on the fence about the Vita to slowly but surely migrate towards it. Never the less, this, more games, more bundles and a possible pricecut can only help

Sony should also swallow the pill and cut the memory card prices in half. Hardware sales won't skyrocket, but the price cuts will, at the very least, help significantly increase software sales.
Sony will be discontinuing the PSP in Japan and Europe this year.
