Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza Horizon 2 Announced - Cross-gen coming this fall

If two completely different developers are making the 360/X1 games will they even be the same game? Or do they have a very detailed blueprint to go by to make sure that the content is the same and they just have to do the technical work?

Titanfall was made by two different devs and it's still the same game...

I disagree with the Second and Third party definition. Heavy Rain isn't owned by Sony, yet Quantic Dream is a Second Party Developer.

Sony owns the Demon's Souls IP, but From Software is a third party developer.

I think Second Party just means a developer who publishes a game exclusively on one console, no matter who owns the IP.

Well I for one appreciate the cross gen. The X1 not even being a year old I appreciate the option. The hypocrisy here is kinda funny. Now that MS is supporting their console (in its NINTH year), people still complain.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I don't understand people complaining about a cross-gen title. It's a unique idea for consoles and if it works, people who own an X1 can immediately bank on a much larger player base, people that own a 360 might be influenced into buying an X1 after playing with their next-gen counterparts, the developer gets the assurance of their title getting released to the largest possible audience...
I mean I really don't see a downside.

sorry but heavy rain was originally slated for both ps3 and 360,..  it is a third party exclusive.  it is no more sony's than the witness, exlusive because they found mutually beneficial terms (marketing) but sony has no real ownership in the games.

demon's souls is a second party franchise hence why from software had to abandon the IP and create dark souls to go multiplat.  ratchet and clank/insomniac is also second party hence why insomniac is free to pursue multiplates and xbox exlusives on the side,.. just not with the R&C IP.

Incredible how minor differences between PS4 and X1 games are enough to buy one over the other but when it's 360 vs X1 the difference isn't large enough to buy one over the other... this is actualy funny

Awesome, so it's official now. I loved the first! Absolutely awesome game, underrated in my opinion. The game looks absolutely stunning, still today.
I expect both versions to differ a lot. Graphics and content. The number 2 won't improve much on 360, for sure, but I am eager to see what they can do on next-gen! Should be a legit competitor to DC.

Well don't to MS for supporting the 360 for so long... They have asked a DIFFERENT developer to port this game developed on the ONE to the 360.

Well played.

Since this thread was dragged off topic by many people I shall continue too... this forum would have an orgasm if a PS4 port of GT6 was announced, without a hint of irony.

Are you saying that Forza Horizon 2 is a 360 port?

The PS5 Exists.

If History of me arguing about Heavy Rain with people around VGC has taught me anything, is that a 360 version was remotely considered...back when the game was on paper only. When they start making the prototype for the engine and the game, it was already funded by Sony . So you could say Quantic Dream chose to be a Second Party developer; (seriously, Nintendo or PC wasn't even considered. That makes them even more Second Party). I think Beyond: Two Souls is also owned by Quantic Dreams.

Anyway, I just checked the internet and apparently, "Second-Party" term is just gamer slangs; because no thing as such exists. World is divided between First and Third party.
