why? is this a cultural thing?! in the US weeks start on sunday and go to saturday hence the word "weekend". if i say "next week" then i mean the next sunday through the following saturday.

It must be a cultural thing because in Britain if you said next week on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, it means from the following Monday.
