Absolutely not, OP.
Guacamelee was excellent but Symphony of the Night just had more content and a larger scale. That is still why it's looked at as one of the best even today.

If SOTN is overrated, it's only by the smallest of margins.
I think it's an extraordinary game. Tight controls, stellar level design, all-time great music, a protagonist for the ages, perfect pacing, and huge replay value. Is it the best Castlevania game? I'd probably give that title to Aria of Sorrow, but SOTN is a very close second.
Guacamelee! is an excellent game, but it's not quite on the same level as the top-echelon Castlevania games.
No the best 2d sidescroller in mt opinion is super metroid, followed by Sony. Havent played guacamole but I have it downloaded

Never heard of this Guacamolee, but here's my 2 cents.
5 years from now people will still be cherishing SotN as one of the best games.
Guacamolee will be just as forgotten as it is now.
I don't think so! Symphony of Night is a beautifully crafted game and it deserves all the praise it gets! Everything is awesome about it......even the cheesy voice acting!

You think SoTN is too difficult? Try the original Castlevania trilogy for the NES in this case!

I've enjoyed my time with both games but I would still rate SotN above Guacamelee, especially when played on PSP / Vita, which makes both game look absolutely gorgeous, even in this day and age.
However, despite the lackluster story and crappy dialogue, SotN did exploration like nobody's business.
You wanna pass through spikes? Well, you can't. But maybe there's a solution somewhere so you can. Not gonna hint at it, not gonna show you where, not even gonna be gracious enough to let you know it even exists.
Can't beat the huge ass lightning boss? Well, too bad. Have fun trying over and over and over again. Unless you get that ring. What ring? There's no such thing. Maybe if you run around the castle as a wolf you'll find something, but I doubt it.
And so on, and so on, and so on. It's an insanely fun game to play WITHOUT a strategy guide for the most part and it's always so nice to just run into new things to do, new items with weird names and properties and even some extremely rare drops that you didn't even know were there.
Guacamelee, with a few exceptions, felt really linear to me. It's not that it was, or that it was bad in any way - I rate the orb levels as some of the most fun things I've ever done in a 2D game -, but it just didn't feel like it was offering you the same freedoms as SotN.

I still don't get why people call games like the first Castlevania (which I played when I was 7-8) difficult. I never thought it was and I replayed it a few years ago on an emulator and beat it in a few hours. And I'm not that good of a gamer (apart from strategy games).

Or maybe you are, but you're too modest :P
