Forums - Gaming - The UK has...interesting...gaming taste...

I've known that since the days when Just Dance absolutely and completely owned the UK charts. I also remember some strange game with animals or something, possibly based on a kid's show, doing very well.

I saw that game for sale at GameStop over here in the US. I was surprised to see a new DS game come out, even if the game looks like shit. I'm not surprised the game is doing well because: most overrated Disney movie of all time + cheap bargain game + parents who are cheap = a game that sells relatively well

I guess they are like Japan in the sense that they have "unique tastes"... Just with less fetishes

But unique tastes are all about fetishes, aren't they?

Games get discounted fast and often here in the UK. High profile games will often have their prices slashed in just a month from release and games that aren't as popular even earlier at certain retailers. Some of these shovelware games are sold for next to nothing, almost giving them away for free.

It's a great country to go bargain bin hunting.

If people like the game, let em have it. Hell, I love a lot of Japanese games that people don't give two shits about, and you know what? I don't care. I'll play what I want.

Roy Mustang approves.

Interesting. I was expecting people to deny it, but apparently it's true, the bargain bin is especially strong in the UK. Still, it bothers me. The bargain bin games might not be getting more profit, but they're getting more exposure, and shovelware games like that don't deserve the exposure. It's like when you see the Twilight books sell well. Even more bothersome than the fact that someone makes money off of writing that crap is the fact that it's being read by tons of people, thus having an impact on literature that it doesn't deserve. Same with crappy games. Shovelware exists because there's a large audience of easy to fool people who will buy it.

now that was just uncalled for.

If you like the Twilight Saga, I have no sympathy for you. No regrets, I stand by what I said. That series is awful. Same applies to 50 Shades of Gray, except 10 times more so. I'd rather play through Final Fantasy XIII 100 times straight or watch The Room 100 times straight than read either of those series.

They have better gaming taste than Japan though, so it's not that bad.

I also liked Final Fantasy XIII

Well FFXIII isn't the worst game I could have picked. You could substitute Sonic '06 in for FFXIII if you like, it's infinitely worse. I just figured FFXIII would be harder to play 100 times due to it's length.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Japan frustrates me at times with what it embraces and what it rejects, but no where near as much as the UK does. Japan picks the best of Eastern gaming, but doesn't play a lot of Western games. You can't fault them for that. You can fault UK for promoting the worst the West has to offer.
