Forums - Gaming - Mario Kart 8 makes the Wii U the first must-have console

I want to get a Wii U eventually, but I want to get an Xbox One as well. Just have to wait til I have more money.

I was actually somewhat impressed by MK8 until DF revealed that the game is only native 720p and still can't maintain a solid 60 through and through. The lies from the hype killed my interest in it, unfortunately.

I'm happy enough with my PS4. I might buy my first Wii-U title someday, but it won't be MK8 sadly... Here's to hoping ZeldaU does the job.

The game is amazingly beautiful, resolution be damned. And I've never had any slow-downs while playing the game, it's the smoothest racer I've ever played.

I don't doubt it. Facts are facts though. The 1080p thing was such a huge deal by people preaching about the title, and it turned out to be false. Plus, I really don't like Nintendo's way of limiting MP. It's makes me as a grown man feel like I'm limited in what I can do online and being babysat because Nintendo doesn't want to upset mothers of kids playing their games. All just my opinion.

On a side note though, I really love MK:DD for its huge offering in unlock able content. I remember working my ass off the get that damn Trophy Kart, and felt accomplished afterwards lol. How is the unlockable content in this one? Is there an abundance of it, and is it worth it to go for it?

There's tons of unlockables. You'll have to ace every track in the game truly unlock everything.

That's what you make of it, feel free to show me otherwise where this exactly has been said? Sales are how you see if others share your opinion, nothing more. For example i don't like Rihanna, but i do know that she enjoys great sales. Which is how i know that my opinion of her is not a popular one.

To each their own. From what I got out of your argument, you put the opinions of others instead of deciding for yourself when it comes to the Wii U. If that's not so, my bad, but that was my interpretation.

The Wii U is the best value in price-to-game ratio, and that's a fact. Whether or not it is a must-have console is an opinion.

Not really, it cant do much other than play games. For 100$ more, you get a DVD and Blu Ray player, as well as bigger hard drive and better media capabilities, and a much much more powerfull hardware that will almost certanly have a much longer lifespan.

Mario Kart 8 is not a must-have for me. The PS4 proved itself a must-have console for me with the release of Infamous: Second Son in March. Besides we know that you mostly love Japanese games, while I find most of them mediocre (except for MGS and GT, both mostly western-oriented games).

While the Wii U may have a bigger lineup, most of it looks uninteresting to me. Even an X1 looks more up my alley than a Wii U.

(In my opinion)

Mario Kart 8 is easily the best game in the franchise- the best graphics, the smoothest gameplay, the best online, the most variety in characters, courses, karts, etc. Not only that, but Nintendo has decided to give a game of equal value (if you choose either Pikmin 3 or WWHD), for absolutely free.

That's $60 for $120 worth of games that are all better than any other next-gen game currently available on other consoles by a landslide.

Not only that, but Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle knocks another $30 off the game price, and adds in a steering wheel and limited-edition controller that are worth $45 by themselves, if not more, for free.

That's essentially $330 for both the console and $165 of games/accessories.

You pretty much get the console (and the Deluxe version, at that) for $165. That's easily a better deal than the PS4 (at $400) or the Xbox One (at $400/$500), and this is coming from someone who owns both a Wii U and PS4.

If you love Mario Kart and Nintendo games in general, now is the time to get a Wii U. If you don't, you are missing out on the best value in gaming currently.

Id could say total opposite on the consoles worth value, but atleast you said opinion and fair nuf it is just that.  Your view tis all.

Intrestingly nuff best graphics, best online are you sure ? casue for years iv heard form certain people such things dont matter.

Personally will get Kart when i trade in watch dogs, hope it lives up to the hype.  But im going in with low expectatiuons, Ninty fanbase has been to desperate for a savoir to trust their take on Wiiu games.  But it is kart, shoulndt dissapoint.

It's a lot better than I was expecting. For me MK had been in gradual decline but the racing on this one is fantastic. Put 10 hours into it yesterday which is something I've not done in a long time.

Not found any really weak courses either. Which is refreshing. I just hope they remake more classic circuits as DLC.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I don't find how any game released until now for Wii U is a must have. Maybe Pikmin 3 which I need to buy. SSB looks ok but inferior to Melee.

On the other hand, X could be a must have.

Wrong! Missile Command made Atari the first must have console.

So far so great with Mario Kart though. Don't really like that they went the same route as MK 7 with the VR, but that's a minor complaint.

PS4 is must for me since Infamous. I just don't have the money yet

Infamous SS was a giant let down (for me at least). Terrible side quests, short story and not much replay value in comparison to the previous iterations. Boss fights (if you can even call it that) were lacking as well. Graphics on the other hand were great.
