I would love to have one, and I'm sure it's great... but it isn't a suitable laptop replacement for me.

I'm sure its great but its way too expensive for that price. This one won't sell well and then in a few months again they will release the next Surface Pro.

The Surface Pro 2 that I have plays many different PC games just fine for me. It has a 10 inch screen, so the resolution settings don't need to be too high. As far as the price goes, you don't have to spend the money for the most expensive version of the Surface Pro, you really are just paying for bigger SSD at that point. If you look at gaming laptops, they will be much higher priced than this. |
This is horribly wrong.
You can get a gaming laptop for ~$1000 that will do everything the Surface 3 can, but better. The Surface 3 has no dedicated graphics, which means that you can play some older games, but nothing new. It is horribly overpriced, as to even come close to the capability of a $800 laptop you need to pay over $1200 to get the faster processor. By the time you add in a keyboard on a 12 in. behemoth tablet, it'll only be slightly more portable than a standard 13 in. laptop.
Also, storage is severely limited. I can get a laptop with a dedicated graphics card, i7 Haswell, and an SSD/HDD combo for around $1000, much cheaper than the Surface.
There's a reason Windows tablets don't take off. They may be nice, but laptops do all that they are able to and much cheaper.

What brand or model 12 inch laptop are you refering to? The "i want to play games" mantra is a little weak. I have the Pro 2 and the screen is only 10.6 inches. I play civilization and a few other games with no problems. My son has a Pro 2 also and he downloaded the free Battlefield 3 from Origin a couple of days ago and has been playing that quite a bit. I can't diagree that the graphics chip is on the lower end, but with a 12 inch screen it is plenty good. |
The physical size of the screen has nothing to do with graphics performance... that 12 inch screen is 1440px tall, which is a high resolution to play on without a decent GPU. I didn't read all that article but I would assume the tablet just uses the integrated Intel GPU, which is what I game with... mine will be an older version but my laptop struggles with/doesn't run most games from 2011 onward and some (looks at GTA4) from 2008... and that's at a 1366*768 resolution.

Here I thought i said gaming laptop and you talk about the cheap i7 Hp or Dells at walmart. What do those things weigh? 4-6 pounds? Show me a link to this 12 inch gaming laptop for less than $1300...
It is near the end of the end....

14 in. laptop (only 2 in. more than the tablet), dedicated graphics card, SSD for OS and HDD for content, full amount of USB ports, i7 processor, and guess what? All for just a bit more than the price of the most basic Surface 3 model.
Both the Surface 3 and a laptop aren't gonna fit in your pocket, so the weight factor isn't worth plunking down $400 more cash to get a downgraded device. You will need a bag to carry both, and you will need a case along with a keyboard for your tablet anyway.
The Surface 3 is just gonna suffer like every other Surface, because it's not as cheap as standard tablets, and not as powerful or as functional as standard laptops.

It's still to heavy for a tablet and the kickstand looks like it's still uncomfortable when placed on the legs though. Don't know if it still runs as hot as the first Surface, but i imagine the i7 version does.
Still think that something like the Asus T100 is the superieur solution, wished that Microsoft made a premium quality version of that.
When you try to be everything to everyone, it's very likely you'll fail.
Though I've often thought Surface could break that mold.
Have they built in a 360 controller wireless receiver yet?
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I mostly agree, it's just that they should dumb the kickstand for the clam shell design and include the keyboard. Not too much to ask for.
Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates
Regional Analysis (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 : 49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global => XB1 : 32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%
Really is cutting edge, but too costly in general. Young professionals should definitely pick this up.
