I can't see the CHL holder as a "hero" in this story. He should have called the cops himself instead of shooting the guy. Smells like vigilantism to me.

Xeno man, you make it sound like being an Olympic pistol shooter is so easy that you can just aim at their leg and get them right there without killing them, anybody who's had proper gun training knows that you can never assume that you'll always hit your target so you always aim for the largest areas for self defense or rescue which are the chest and abdominal areas or the whole back side, things like arms, legs, and head are so much harder to hit unless you practice on moving targets at the range everyday. The other issues is that if you don't kill the asshole/s, US laws might still fuck you over after the fact, you really don't want some asshole suing you after you defended yourself in the proper situation according to US State/Federal laws because you didn't finish them off while you had the chance.
And to whoever else saying we shouldn't kill anybody "period" is just in the zone of self indulgence, what we shouldn't be are mass murderers or serial killers, you are NOT a murderer if you do it for the right reasons and abide to the laws as a civilian.

So its because hes carrying a gun while commiting a crime is the reason you think he deserved to die, best not be carrying a gun when illegally parking then, or you deserve to die!
Well that's the risk you have by having a gun for everyone to see (assuming I'm reading the article right, [I'm half asleep and the wording in this article is strange], 2 people rob a GameStop, a dude with a gun sees it happening, he notices one of the robbers has a gun, and feeling threatened he shoots at them and one of the robbers dies.? Correct me if Im wrong)
Neither should have had guns on them, but the gun laws allow it, for better or worse it ended up with someone dead today

My morals are absolute, if somebody decides to make an attempt on my life I will defend myself by non-lethal means, I will NOT however, EVER, take a life. If I did so I would be no better than the person attempting to take my own. Edit: There is also the small fact that I have never handled a real gun (and never intend to) and wouldn't know where to start shooting somebody's brains out. |

It really depends on how threatened he actually was by the robber holding a gun.
In the case he was, the CHL holder acted on legitimate defense after the robber attempted to carry on his criminal intention with lethal force.
In the case he wasn't, there was excess of legitimate defense and manslaughter, or even eventual intent to murder from the CHL holder when he shot the armed robber - depending of his skills and where the shot hit. But here we are talking about forensics, not criminal law theory.
In either case, calling it a death sentence for robbery seems an attempt at an emotional fallacy, unless the CHL holder was some vigilante who insidiously tried to shoot the robbers for their act. It hardly seems to have been the case. He wasn't shot for the robbery per se.
Remember always that legitimate defense exists because the rule of law cannot yield before unlawfulness, even at the costs of one's life.
Also, I think this article is very biased and highly suspicious. First and foremost, the author chose to emphasize that the robbers had hoodies AND bandannas, in an obvious attempt to paint them as black hoodlums. Then, they were loading the trunk with XBoxes and video games, while at the same time holding a gun!? I bet that would have been highly impractical, not to mention pointless.
It is also just an article from an openly right-wing blog, that other than this murderous drivel publishes racist articles aimed against black population (http://buzzpo.com/yourre-white-paying-reparations-compensate-blacks-slavery/), feeding other racist masses in the comment section.
At least, could a mod please move this into Politics section, because this trash has nothing to do in the Gaming section...

Thats just stupid. Yes, actually armed crimes are much worst than the same crime unamred. If hes was carring the gun you can expect that he'd use it.

"WAHHHH KILLING IS BAD" yeah, makes no sense to put down a serial killer to save innocent lives right? OT: could've been petty theft, instead some dimwit made it an armed robbery and attempted murder. |
You do realise despite not being allowed to own guns in the UK, were not all dead? You can stop a criminal without killing them, many countries do it. They also do it with less crime rate and death rates than america, possibly a link there.

You DO NOT just draw your gun on people without preparing for the aftermath, it's perfectly legal to walk around with a gun if you have a permit to carry(also different per State, some areas are gun free zones, most are not, where I live, Washington State, you don't need a permit to own any firearms, but you need a permit to carry a concealed loaded pistol, and you can carry rifles without permit because you can't conceal them, the point is so people can see them, cops might drive up and ask you some questions, but as a responsible gun owner, you don't be a dick about it and cops will leave you be.) The moment you draw that thing for the wrong reasons at people due to stupidity, your life is already mostly forefit.
