Forums - Gaming - Wii U Outsells Xbox One

Thinking about it, the Wii U could have several more "adult" type of games coming. Bayonetta for damn sure, possibly a darker tone for Zelda U more akin to TP than WW, and a solid FPS in Retro's Metroid.

I love how people talk about third parties staying away from the Wii U. If Nintendo plays their cards right at E3, and they maintain Mario Kart through life extending DLC, then they could bump sales up enough that people will consider making games for it again. There's also what I like to call "the eccecntric Japanese dev" effect. We all know we're just one wild hair up some crazy dev's ass away from third party support.

Platinum Games is currently providing Wii U with third party exclusives. People may say "hey that doesn't say much, their games aren't exactly super blockbusters" and to that I say, it doesn't matter. Platinum is the PERFECT third party for Wii U. They have a fiercely devoted fan base that will buy the system just for their games. Even if sales are relatively low for the game, the number of Wii U's sold will be disproportionately large when compared to say a Mario game, because they are pulling in an entirely different demographic than the products Nintendo puts out.

Kojima seems to have snubbed the Wii U because he claimed he couldn't think of a way to use the game pad. Total crap. That said, his ego is gigantic, and I'm sure he's one snarky comment away trying to prove he can do something for the Wii U.

lmao no no they dont

I wouldn't start extrapolating sales based on a single week here. If WiiU can keep these numbers up until the next BIG game hits - probably SSB4 (some good games in between, but not as big) in Holidays (against XB1 pricecut in summer!) THEN we can have a good discussion about the WiiU finishing the generation ahead of the Xbox One.

nintendo needs the nonAAA support from the 3rd partys.  nobody can beat nintendo on AAA titles, but they cant pump out 20 of em each year...

You're crazy if you don't think platinum fans will buy Wii U's just for Bayonetta 2, especially with Kamiya hinting at a port of the original bundled with it.

Nintendo needs more exclusives to keep the momentum going

and you're crazy to think that the very FEW people that would buy Bayo 2 will be significant enough to make a difference. Name be a Platinum game where that was the case otherwise its just wishful thinking at best talking out one's butt at worse. How well did the original do? and that was AFTER price cuts. lets get real

The original Bayonetta sold 2 mil copies or so over its life. That's a significant number when you consider it's a completely untapped market for Nintendo. The game has a cult following and even if it only sells 2mil again, I'm willing to bet it moves a disproportionately large volume of hardware precisely because of that reason.

If Bayonetta 2 comes out with a port of the original I'm willing to bet it beats the sales of the original and shows a decent boost to Wii U hardware sales upon release.

There is no battle. XBO has second place locked down.

Don't be so sure. In the first 5 months,

XB1 2014 Sales : 4,539,150 - 2,919,036 = 1 620 114

WiiU 2014 Sales : 6,290,941 - 5,358,113 = 932 828

XB1 sold only 687286 more consoles in the first 5 months and the gap is still 1 751 791.

* XB1 has a clear substitute, named PS4, so it's against severe competition.

* WiiU has no clear substitute and has a largely different audience for nintendo exclusives, which are speeding up.

* XB1 has no presence in Japan, while WiiU is the biggest console right now, and still growing.

* XB1 is in BIG trouble in Europe, and behind WiiU.

* XB1's advantage in US may not be sufficient against WiiU due to stiff competition from Sony.

So things can go either way. Although I agree that XB1 will likely have a larger market share eventually, it's not that "locked down" right now.
