Good for Costa Rica. Now they only have to fulfill their role as a pushover in the quarter finals.

If you played like you did with Australia or Mexico's first half, I would say it will be an even match.

Just the fact the Costa Rica made it to the quarter finals is insane!!! Even if they don't go to the semi (which will the the case), I'm a happy man.

VAMOS COSTA RICA CARAJO!!!! PUTOS!!!!!!

Mexico 1-2 Netherlands
Costa Rica 0-0 (5-3) Greece

Pretty good day, even got penalties right.

It will be funny to see Costa Rica win against Netherlands.

Dreadful, dreadful match. Definitely the most amateuristic showing of the whole World Cup. It is mindblowing how Greece was actually unable to score a goal out of their millions of chances. I'm happy for Costa Rice for making it to the quarter-finals for the first time in history though, it's quite an achievement.

Judging from this match however, one would think Netherlands will have no problem whatsoever next saturday.

Tomorrow will also be pretty one-sided I suppose. Both Nigeria and Algeria should be no match, for France and Germany.

I already said they played really bad this match, at least compared to the group stage. Hell, before the WC I was pretty sure CR would be lucky to even get 1 point in the group, Costa Rica has shown they are great and that they have potential. Saying they are a poor team is pure ignorance.

Not ignorance, an honest assessment. We see it all the time in cup competitions when the poor team ups the performance when they play a "big" team.

Bradford City (a 4th tier football club by the way) beat Wigan Athletic, Arsenal and Aston Villa (All Premier League clubs) to proceed to the League Cup Final in the 2012/13 Season. Bradford City were a very poor team that were trying to push for the playoff positions in the 4th tier at the time. Individual players had special games, in Bradfords case it was Nahki Wells and James Hanson. The manager, Phil Parkinson, had a perfect strategy for each game.

Costa Rica are in the same boat as Bradford City. They played extremely well against the big teams, Italy and Uruguay, yet failed to impress when they came up against a team who were already out (England) and a team who are on the same football level as Costa Rica and have been terrible for the entire tournament (Greece).

Hell, the best possible example for this with internationals is Greece, when they won the 2004 European Championships. They were a terrible team, yet despite all odds went on to win the damn thing.

Dont take it personally, its just that Costa Rica isnt a very good team. Ghana werent a very good team, yet they managed to get within a hand of the Semis at 2010.

The Dutch definitely have a 90% chance of making the semis but 90% =/= 100%. All it takes is an unexpected moment of brilliance or ref fail and it could easily go the other way. That's why they play the game.

@Mexico x Netherlands
I think one of the causes of Mexico losing was the coach. He didn't had the cold blood to keep pushing Netherlands in the middle and defense, where they are average to week. He was happy with the result (1-0) and wanted to secure it.

It was a PEN, no way around it. A pity for sure, i wanted to watch that extra time.

@CR X Greece
Couldn't watch this one. I didn't expected Greece to give such a hard time. I'm happy CR did it, Greece didn't deserved it.

Great WC until now. The last two i was just bored to be honest, but now i'm exited to watch the games.
Tomorrow there will be no surprises though.
To this moment only the group leaders are going through. (

People decide to get drunk so the verbal beatdown they get doesnt hurt quite as much.

Lucky escape for Costa Rica. Navas made great saves and deserved man of the match. Greek tragedy, man up, late equaliser and all the momentum. Greece could not finish off Costa Rica and lost the penalty shoot out by a great Navas save. Costa Rica's quarter final opponents Holland also had a lucky escape with two late goal to come from behind and steal victory from a gallant Mexico. Mexico and the supporters are gutted by that penalty decision awarded to Dutch in 94th minute. Robben clearly dived, Marquez barely touched the player.
