Wait a second...if Germany beats USA 1-0 and Ghana beats Portugal 1-0  ...both USA and Ghana will have the EXACT same points right?

I think the USA would advance because they won against Ghana. But sometimes FIFA rules are different from UEFA rules.

Wouldn't be surpised if the team with most goals scored advances then

In the scenario Osed125 put, that ruling won't apply, since both teams will end with the exact same numbers of goals scored as well. The rankings ruling will go into the addendum criteria (http://www.conmebol.com/en/content/tie-breaker-rules-group-stage-2014-world-cup-brazil):

Rules

As explained in one of the official documents released by FIFA, the ranking of each of the four teams seeded in a total of eight groups are determined as follows:

  1.  Greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
  2.  Goal difference in all group matches;
  3.  Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

However, if two or more teams are to be equal on the basis of all of these three criteria, the rankings will be based as follows:

  1. Greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
  2. Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
  3. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
  4. Drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

If the result I say happens, absolutely everything for Ghana and USA will be same (goals in favor, goals against, goal difference and points), except for the match both team had. And like I said, if Ghana and USA drew their match I think the coin toss would be the last resort.

Just saw your edit, what does number 4 mean?

Germany would even advance if they lose with two goals difference and Ghana wins wins with two  goals difference at the same time. Nothing to worry about.

So are the 5 extra mins justified?

Most likely it's the lots they use during the group stage draws. Instead of a coin toss, it's a two ball toss

@Azerth

Considering that after scoring the 2nd goal, the USA team was flopping into the ground at every chance they had, 5 minutes was more than justified.

there were several pauses due to players (especially US) having cramps and because players had to drink etc

By the way, I only saw a single comment speaking about Beckerman's elbowing Meireles in the face. Thoughts about it, anyone?

Man I know the odds of it ever happening are ridiculously small, but I want a to see a WC group where EVERY match ends 0-0...just for fun...I want to see how the FIFA reacts
