Wow so much envy and ignorance here. Specially from Carl. England played bad every minute of this world cup, get over it. As for Iran, how the f*** did they deserve to win when all they did was defend and throw the ball to our defenders the whole match??? Argentina did not play bad at all, it's just that Iran put up a wall.
We deserved to win, we were much better than Iran the entire match. You people are just jelous.

Now I don't know about the rest of it but the bolded is flat out false. There was a good time when we had Uruguay on the ropes and perhaps should have scored another goal; and Italy we were never "on top" but had a good few chances.

However Argentina did deserve the win if only for their style of play. However, Iran Did Not Play Badly. If you believe they could have performed like this going toe-to-toe with Argentina, then that's wrong. They played their game and, whilst not the most positive or exciting, it nearly saw them do really well and get a deserved point.

Just because people disagree however that doesn't make them ignorant. It's a game after all; different people will see it in different ways and that's OK.

Well, my comment was for Carl who thinks England dominated both Italy and Uruguay.

Yes, Iran did not play bad. Impressive defending. But what i say is that a team who ONLY plays defensively and whose objective is to tie the game, does not deserve to win, like many here are saying. Argentina kept going forward while Iran kept going backwards.

Envy? Sure. Ignorance? Ha.

Iran were robbed. Iran we are talking about here, just pushed Argentina to the 90th minute, made 3-4 clear cut goal scoring chances and were denied a penalty.

Argentina were lucky, thats all that there is to it. Better team sure, but they really did not deserve 3 points.

Neither did Iran though .

And speaking of Iran, they were not robbed anything. That wasn't a penalty

Balls don't just change directions and increase speed like that without being touched first.

Granted, the ref never had slow motion to make the call and it was a 50/50 call from his point of view, nevertheless it wasn't a penalty so his lucky guess was in fact correct.

Based on that replay whatever that was was a foul. I don't get this "rule" that if the ball is touched (and in the above example it was barely touched), then no matter that the other player was absolutely stopped by force to reach the barely touched ball, it's not a penalty. I mean, 98% of the above effort ended up in the colision with the attacker and 2% into touching the ball.

Botang v Botang. This must be a first.

Unless you count that other game against Ghana last cup :P

Didn't know that. Didn't see much of Germany or Ghana last World Cup. Apart from the England game.

Hates tiki-taka, loves catenaccio.

Get out of here.

Tika taka is a poor mans version of catenaccio.

Iran had no other option. Just like Uruguay against the mighty England.

LOL the MIGHTY England is going home now with two matches lost. God save the dragqueen.

I didnt say we dominated Italy, I said we played really well.

More importantly, this is actually a good game and Germany arent quite dominating like I expected

Question for all you soccer experts.

Say if Germany beats Ghana 2-0 or even 3-0/3-1, is it reasonable to believe they will rest starters vs USA? Correct me if I'm wrong but top seed from the group would be virtually locked for them.

Looking at the replay, i'm not sure what to think. On one hand, Zabaleta touched the ball first so it technically isn't a penalty. But on the other hand, he crossed his right leg all the way to the attacker's left leg to make him fell. So...I say it wasn't a penalty because no one else but the attacker asked for a penalty. Not even the brazilians on the stadium who wanted Iran to win (well, more like wanted argentina to lose).

If Germany wins they might rest players against US as they really are not bothered who they play in round of 16 anyways. They expect to beat Belgium, Russia or Korea.

It would depend on the result of the USA - Portugal game. If USA draw or win then Germany would still need a decent result against them, maybe not so much if USA draw but definitely if they win.

I'm expecting a loss vs Portugal lol

Ghana are playing good football.
