I think they are reffering to the fiscal year (March 2014 - March 2015), so it would be PS4 + PS3 for 1 year.
It doesn't say by 2015, it says in 2015. Sony is looking a year and half ahead. Sony knows its over hyped GDDR5 hardware will not keep the wolves (Microsoft & Nintendo) off its back.

EU is the only thing keeping it afloat (and the rest of the world, because the thing is damn cheap). Anyway, I'm glad to see Sony still manufacturing the console and I hope they keep it like that for at least a couple of years.

As i stated above this is old news from there financial report. There are many sources for this, yet this article didnt even use it as a source, there just reporting 3rd hand information.

Yeah, it's definitely a very conservative estimate. We've been here before and they beat that figure by 2 million.

however, Sony financials forecasted the number for FY15. so actually, its 17 million sold in that year. the article is just wrong.
