Forums - Nintendo - Should I get Mario Kart 8?

If you like MK, buy it without a second thought. If you don't, buy it anyway to support the inclusion of the Super Horn.

Don't get it, the game is gawd awful. Trust me, I've actually played the game!

For your son maybe, for you I don't think so considering what you wrote on the OP. Although, I recomend you MK64 on the VC when it launchs on Wii U, it's the best in the series.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

You never mentioned how much you liked the console MKs other than that you played the first one 'intensively.' So, how much did you enjoy MK64 and MK:DD!!? The problem might be that you just don't like Handheld Mario Kart games.

Either way, I'd recommend it. If you don't like it, your son will.

Mario Kart is one of those racers that is more about luck than skill. While being good at the game will give you a first place win in multiplayer more often than not, the game penalizes you heavily for being a good player, so much that I personally think sandbagging, lagging behind purposefully at a lower place, atleast third,, and then taking the lead on the last lap gives me a better chance at getting first more often.

I've always found the issue of being penalized for being a better player an annoyance so have never been a fan, although I still ended up buying Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7, selling them off later. There are other kart racers I've enjoyed more because they don't use that annoying trait.

Definitely get it. For 2 good reasons.

1. It's Mario Kart.
2. You get 2 games for the price of one (Unless you don't register the game before July 31st)

You say it's more about luck than skill, but then you go on to say that the better players win more often than not, which is true, hence skill is most important. And I don't what you mean by the better players being penalized, as items can affect you regardless of what position you're in. And if you don't like the series then stop buying the games! xP

I would, just because Mario Kart is amazing, and gets better every year!

Better players will win more often than not in Mario Kart.  Compare that to other kart racers, games or non kart racers that have weapons, games like Chocobo Racing, Crash Bandicoot, or Wipeout, where you're not penalized the higher the place you're in, and getting a lucky item will barely matter in the long run as the best player will win almost every time.  Compare that the games that don't even have weapons, giving even less of a chance for the best player to lose.

Yeah, there are some players on this site that pull ahead and stay ahead and no amount of powerups can even the odds.
