Forums - Gaming - Gaming Indusrty Obsession With Shooting Games

I think the Main reason Shooting games are so successful is because of the violence.

I suppose that's what people want to see.

Sex also sells but there's a big taboo about this issue in our society and in video games .

Sex is Wrong Violence is ok.

That's the message in video games tv and movies.

Sure, that's why racing and sports games are so successful --- Sex and violence!

People need to realize there is only one reason any game is successful. It is successful because it's fun. Nothing more. Good games are fun, and it has nothing to do with anyone's self-righteousness.

Titanfall is successful because it's fun. CoD is successful because it's fun. Halo is successful because it's fun... It just happens that they are fun shooters.

Rambo the Video game is not successful, because it sucks. Ride to Hell is not successful, because it sucks. Steel Batallion Heavy Armor is not successful, because it sucks... It just happens that those sucky shooters are even much more violent than successful ones.

If you don't like guns, great. You are a wonderful human being. And there are hundreds, even thousands of games without guns, shooting and violence. Just avoid the ones you don't like and that are not tailored to your moral standards, and you can still have thousands of hours of gaming enjoyment.

Violence is everywhere.

Wrestling matches for kids

Action movies that shows people being brutally killed

TV shows that shows lots of violence.

When is comes to Sex there's a big fear.

We live in society that always gives us the meesage -

Sex is Wrong Violence is ok.

I don't really undrestand that logic.

I was referring to TV only. The violence and sex in TV shows is generally in shows for adults not kids. If kids are watching adult shows, then its not anyone's fault eccept the child's parents.
Also sex is worse than violence. We don't need kids watching sex.

Most of the people that complain are Nintendo or JRPG fans. It is like these people live on a whole other planet than me and many others. I am happy to be in a console market not even close to being dominated by either of these rapscallions, that can get their games on handhelds, and mobile devices.

The rise in shooters of many types is what made last gen my favorite. I will consume.

Ever since video games were invented, shooters (in one form or the other) were pretty much dominant genre. It's really nothing new or to be surprised about - unless OP has some hidden agenda for this thread.

Just to make it clear, my favorite genre are P&C adventure games, so I'm just stating the obvious (at least, for those who know a thing or two about VG history).

While violence is one of the possible reasons for the popularity of shooting games, I don't think it is the main reason. In my opinion, the biggest reason why shooters are so popular is because the gameplay revolves around the simple principle of aiming and firing. It's an activity that just about anyone can do.

Now compare that to a genre like fighting games, where a person coming into the genre has to learn basic movement, how to block, learn different motions to perform special attacks, and so on. Essentially, it's a much more complex activity than what you would expect from a shooter. So it should come as no surprise why fighters aren't as popular anymore.

Now if violence were the biggest reason why shooters are so popular, than why aren't violent fighting games like Mortal Kombat pulling CoD numbers? So while violence can draw some people to shooters, I think the bigger reason why people of all ages like shooters is because they're fairly easy to pick up and play.
