Nope. Ubisoft is a major competitor with EA, Activision, and 2K, so I doubt those companies would be keen on developing for a rival's console.

Plus Assassin's Creed and Far Cry aren't enough to sell a console.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Yes, Ubisoft absolutely could come out with their own console. Will they? No. Could they do it and compete? Absolutely. And if they sold it at a $400 price point with free online and good 3rd party support, I'd be down.

Yes this is a good idea Activision, Capcom, EA and Namco Bandai should also release their own consoles and make their games exclusive to them that’s what the industry needs.

That'll just end up fragmenting the industry and causing another crash.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

No. Do you have any idea what kind of "stuff" you must have in order to pull such a task? Nintendo's video game sector has been around since the 70's and they're still having trouble. You need people to pull this off. Ubisoft is big. Is it Nintendo, Sony, Sega, or Microsoft big... no. If they did release one, I'd bet it'd be better that that crappy Ouya. I mean, who buys a console named "Ouya"? That's worse than Wii U!

Do they have the games to support a console as a first party? Yeah, I think they do, maybe a couple other third party publishers do as well. But they don't have the the financials to support it. It's not even the fact that it'd be a huge risk for them, but R&D would probably put them into debt (they have to hire a whole new massive hardware team before even starting the R&D itself), and supporting online infrastructure, and selling at a loss, and building currently non-existant relations with manufacturers, taking all their games off the current console market and making them exclusive, paying for a few more exclusives, and advertising all on their own...

The venture wouldn't be profitable in a million years.

Getting into the hardware bussiness means buying patents, making contracts with manufacturing companies, and obtaining third-party support. You also have to have a good amount of exclusive games that people are willing to buy a dedicated console for.

The only reason Far Cry and Assassin's Creed are so successful is because they are on every single console. By making them exclusive, Ubisoft would be comitting corporate suicide as those games would sell a tenth of what they do now, if not less.

And companies like EA and Activision would avoid it like the plague. Ubisoft is a major rival for them, and this would be their chance to watch the ship crash and burn.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

If anyone does enter the console market it would have to be someone who already has deep pockets ie. Google, Apple, Samsung, LG, etc.......

The risk-reward assessment is way way too upside down to warrant it.

Everything else you said makes sense but I'm not so sure about this. If Ubisoft were a console maker then they would no longer be rivals to EA and Activision and to release games on their console would be mutually beneficial. EA, Activision, Ubisoft don't presently see Microsoft or Sony as rivals do they?

True, I considered that, but Ubisoft would still be challenging them for overall sales, even as a first-party dev. By preventing their console from ever taking off, they would crush Ubisoft in a way that may prevent them from competing in the videogame market, period. Thus the hole left behind by Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, etc. could be filled in by them.

Ubisoft can but only if they make an ultimate success to fund this venture.

Although I'd rather have 2-3 competitors and ubisoft would upset the balance. Plus 4-5 hundred bucks?! God make gaming a even more expensive hobby.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.
