Erm you need to change the pot and give him a bigger one... It seems so obvious! XD

Oh,I do change the pot for a much much bigger one, but when I pull on the plant, the roots are the same shape as the old pot, so the roots never expanded into the new cactus soil that their much bigger pot affords them.

Ehhh weird.... Hmmm... O_o Then I'm affraid I can't help you this is a very strange case...

what if its a cactus?

My cactuses will rot and die about a year after I get them. I then pull out the roots as an autopsie and see that they never spread out. The roots have kept the shape of the pot I bought them in.

What am I doing wrong? (this is a serious question)

The number one plant killer is over-watering especially if we cultivate cactus and succulents.
Succulent plants like dryness. Some dry periods between watering will maintain a healthy  root system.
  • During the winter for most species withholding water completely is the best method. Many plants will show signs of shrinkage during this dry period but this is normal and good as long as the roots do not disintegrate.
also are you transplanting into the same type of earth?

Does this apply to weed plants too?

Thanks. I guess I water it too much, which leads to rot. I only use a nightly mist with a spritzer bottle with a mild concentrate of Cactus food.

I don't know if its the same type of earth, but it is specifically for cacti.

Do you need other tips? If you're forgetting to water your plants put a rubber band around your wrist to help you remember.
