Sony 2006. they basically told their fanbase to get two jobs to get the PS3.

And MS said to stick with 360 if you don't have good internet. A lot of people either live in rural areas so just don't get internet, period (that's a big middle finger to them) or can't afford good internet, on top of other billing priorities (you know, mortgage/rent, electricity....the essentials). In a way, that is like saying "get a second job to afford good internet to play XBone". That may be a reach on the second point, but I don't think it's stretching it too far. So in one statement, MS told consumers to screw off....twice.

And if someone says "if you can't afford internet, you shouldn't be playing video games"...you should be able to play video games without internet. End of story.

Agreed. but thats not the point. but sony basically said to its consumers "if you cant afford the PS3, you are not good enough for us, work harder."

Wow, that's a good question! Very tough to call this one since both Sony and MS were incredibly arrogant and stupid regarding PS3 and XOne respectively.

I'd have to say that Sony was slightly more "arrogant" (Get a second job, rumble is a 'last gen' feature, etc) and MS was a bit more stupid (everybody will LOVE a mandatory Kinect!, ooh look..voice commands to change TV channels!)

And as others have pointed out, it is a a little more understandable why Sony was over-confident/arrogant given the huge success of PS2, and more baffling why MS thought they could just go off in whatever direction they wanted with the XOne and their fans would blindly follow.  I mean, within less than a year MS has essentially backpedaled and flipped on every core design decision of the XOne: DRM, always-online, mandatory Kinect, Live paywall for Netflix, etc, etc.  When you've changed course on pretty much everything you had planned for I'd say that's a whole lot of stupid...

at least MS didnt say the PS4 was a PS3.5

Did Sony say something like that about the Xbox?

Not to defend the statement (actually, now that I look back at it, it's not even that reprehensible), but in actuality it wasn't "get two jobs". Kuturagi essentially said that he wants people to feel that the PS3 is such a good product, you'll want to work more hours in order to get one. Media spin turned it into "Ken said get two jobs to afford PS3!". I'm working more hours to afford an overseas trip later this year because it's something that I really want. Kuturagi wanted PS3 to be like that to the consumer.

edit: I mean....I don't feel like I'm "not good enough" to fly overseas. But I recognize that that's something I want, but it isn't conventionally priced, so I have to work more to get it. That's not arrogance, that's a cost that's justified by the product (at least, that's what Ken wanted people to feel about the PS3). Chevy isn't telling me to "get two jobs" to afford a new Camaro. I want one, but I know I need to work more to get it, because it's such a good car, to me, that "I feel like I want it, irrespective of anything else". But at the same time, a new Camaro isn't exactly cheap

Oh, yeah I found it, Kutaragi said that.

The Cellchip wins this easy...

Honestly though, I mean it is a difficult question to answer, but he should've known that what he said is really just a very weak excuse, and that nobody would buy it.
