"Chat is restricted to lobbies with friends only. There’s no option to invite friends into a game, and Mario Kart 8 also doesn't provide message notifications. This is seriously disappointing because you have to use outside means to coordinate friends-only races. " - Taken from IGN review.

This is the most disappointing thing I have heard yet about the game. I don't understand why they wouldn't give the option to invite friends into a race.

It's Mario Kart. What more is there to say that wouldn't just be repeating what other reviews have said? It's beautiful, it's got some new social features, and you can drive on certain walls now.
