You are correct, 3 quotes is what we expect to be the maximum.

If we warn people and they ignore us we will ban them.

That said, a common sense approach applies. Your tree was only 3 quotes, but they were all huge.  We expect you (and all posters) to be judicious in deciding what is and is not likely to interrupt the experience of other users, and what is and is not necessary to politely get your point across.

Hadn't heard about a mod complain about tress below 3 quotes but all huge, I'll try to look up at it. Thanks for the advise.

I'm not complaining - as I said you did nothing technically wrong!

Just keep an eye on it!

It would also make things easier if they prevented posts from being published that contained terms like "fanboy" and set the post to "needs moderation" status. However much like the quote rule its left up to the users. It's better to give users that amount of freedom and wiggle room. As far as quotes tho it's not frequent enough to require direct action from the site devs. Not to mention it would likely be a pain in the arse to program in. Who knows tho get in touch with the devs and see if you can make it happen.

I am pretty sure these things are fairly easy to program.

In the case of the quote tree it's simply a matter of removing nested quotes higher than a certain level.

So you don't know much about programming then. Let alone web development. Which is quite funny considering you claimed you had a masters in what was it? Computer science? It would require rewriting the entire quoting code, detecting the amount of quotes, then creating a new array to store the last 3 detected quotes. The way it works now is simple and elogent. Difficulty is not the issue that makes it a pain in the ass. What makes it a pain in the ass is going back and changing perfectly good code and making it considerably more complex in order to prevent something that is rare and completely managable on the user end.

Without having seen the actual code , I can still  envision lots of ways to make this work without having to rewrite the entire code.

It is rather amusing for you to claim what I don't know.

What's really amusing is that you claim to know anything at all while showing extreme ignorance in how it works. I can envision lots of things, it doesn't mean those things are practical or based in reality. For the record there is no way you can do it without changing the entire quoting code. Maybe in fantasy land but no where else.

In what language?

Care to write some pseudocode?

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Lol, MS sensed trouble so it abandoned its strategy for the generation i.e. kinect with every X1 so devs can better implement it.

Forget catching up to PS4. X1 still has to catch up to the Wii U first.

Didn't said you were complaining. Just that never saw any mod complaining in any thread about the length of each quote, just the 3 quotes limit. Any way I took it as a good advise.

Pseudo code would be:

1) Auto-detect quote tree,

if greater than 3, delete oldest

else.

2) Auto-detect array_bannableoffenses

if detected auto-ban.

else.

With those 2 simple command we could get rid of all of our mods /jk
