in 6 years time? Probably on both consoles.
Will we see any sub 720p games from the Xbox One or PS4 this generation? | |||

Not on PS4.

Nons of people took notice, directly or indirectly... the ones who were not technically aware just though the games in question were blurrier.
Edit: I would be surprised to see this on the PS4, but everything is possible, some devs are not very good at their jobs, or projects get rushed... The xb1 is much more likely to see this happen. However, neither platform holder will let a title be published with a cut down resolution, at least not this year... and certainly not next year.
We will go back to being sub hd this generation with the exception that some games on the PS4 maybe sub hd in the future.
No. It would be too much of a PR negative to do so for MSony.
Worst you'll see is 720p/30fps.
But really it shouldn't be such a big deal. I doubt most would notice unless you mentioned it.
I don't think so. Both PS4 and X1 pack enough power to have 720p as a resolution base line; what will eventually become static is the attention to texture detail and other stuff. i.e. Battlefield 6 won't be much improved over Battlefield 5 on consoles.
e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)
Maybe a Crysis game for the X1 will run at a sub-HD resolution, but that's about it!

GTA4 took quite a bit getting used to on ps3 playing on a projector. It did not look good.
Same with Alan wake on 360 (960x544), bit of a shock starting that up.
RDR was a bit easier on the eyes with the open environments.
Sub 720p games, please no. 900p already looks soft after getting spoiled with 1080p dot by dot goodness. No more upscaling, add borders instead.
Yes, I think. PS4 is more than likely going to have 720p as well way before the end of the gen, but a more stable framerate. If devs want to keep those same games with stable framerate on the Xbox One, they'll drop resolution instead.
