That's the last shred of their initial vision gone then.

They totally misjudged the market with this product. It could have been so much better, and so much more viable, from the very start. Now they're stuck with a weaker machine, which at the same price, offers nothing notably different.

It's certainly a step in the right direction and they deserve credit for making tough calls in the name of staying competitive. Just imagine though, what they could have achieved, if this had been their focus from the very start?

"If you can't beat em' join em'" is an apt phrase right now. The Xbone has just completely imitated the PS4's approach.

It will be interesting to see the impact this has on sales. This generations sales just got interesting again.

Basically its the approach Sony went with, minus the planning.

Not a bad approach, but they will need the games to back it up. Which they actually seem to be doing a good job of.

OH lol, that would be a good Idea actually I much prefer the pro controller over the tablet.

And I like the gamepad, but it will never be utilized enough to be worth the extra cost now. They need to swallow their pride and get sales up. The consumer told Nintendo what they want. Hurry up and just do it.

Unlike the Kinect, the gamepad and touch controls are actually required to play a large number of WiiU games, so this will never happen

I'm sorry, but I own a Wii U and that isn't even remotely true. And in almost every case where a game is game pad required, it can be patched to work with a pro controller if it doesn't already.

I'd never have thought they would release an Xbone without the Kinect because they invested too much into it.
But this news is great, I might actually buy it now so I don't miss out on some exclusives.

early adopters always get the finger... whats new?  it's what we sign up for.

PS4 early adopters didn't.. :p

they didnt... yet.

PS3 sure did.

We'll see ^^

True to say the early adopters for both the PS3 and 360 were screwed over continuously though

I mean let's just take a moment to take this all in: 4........FOUR major cons of the X1 have been addressed.

Price gap, kinect mandatory bundle, no games for gold, apps locked behind gold paywall.

I am VERY surprised to see some people weave this into negative news. Why? Because it makes the company you hate actually be a threat to your favourite company? I don't get it. MS is really showing they are listening, I mean really listening. I thought this would happen next year, but this soon tells me they want the bad word of mouth stopping and right now.

Good on them. Truly. Competition truly brings out the best in everybody.

Same old same old. Happens all the time with every fan base.

People be trolling and hating all the time.

The April NPD numbers must have been horrific for the X1.

This is clear, given the wording and dates in the release. It was rushed early due to NPD, no other way to make sense of the timing.

It must be 2 to 1, or close to it.

People that think this will bring MS back to leadership are literally insane. I'm not saying it won't help, but the 2014 lineup is not going to make the XB1 a leader until fall at the earliest, and that's VERY optimistic and would assume that Sony does literally nothing AND makes terrible mistakes like pushing games out of 2014 release.

Every multiplat that comes out is going to be like a punch in the gut to Microsoft. "Runs best on PS4". Not everybody cares, but that's bad PR, and it will just keep coming, hit after hit. Watch Dogs, Destiny, The Division, GTAV:HD, COD:AW, Witcher 3, etc, etc. Boom boom boom boom boom boom.

$399 vs $399, one with notoriously lesser performance will continue to take a toll.

$349 with a AAA title this fall should juice things up, BET ON IT. I don't think Phil will simply let it stand if $399 doesn't light the world on fire (spoiler : it won't of course).

I'd say early ps3 owners got the goose that laid the golden egg actually.

That and the bias of most posters hardly seems to change no matter what the rival company  does. Human fucking beings I tell yah.
