Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 isn't going to help boost sales of the Wii U huh?

So, I guess those of us who predicted 300% increase in WW hardware weren't so crazy after all!

And they guessed over 200% less than what happened!

There were a few who estimated around the 200k mark. I personally was hoping for 150k and up but gave a conservative estimate of 100-120k. I'm glad i was wrong!

I'd think SSB Wii U would boost sales. It's a pretty popular game, and most people I know that are eager to play/are playing MK8 are even more excited, and have been more excited to get SSB Wii U/3DS. All of those that I've spoken to are either wanting the Wii U version, or both the Wii U and 3DS version. While I'm sure many will only buy the 3DS version, there seem to be a good number in my area who want the Wii U version over the 3DS version.

I wish I could go back in time and predict the exact number... I'd be the king of predictions!

I'll repost, it's okay. Knack, it was supposed to beat 3D World, even so far as when it outsold 3D World in the UK, people were twisting that and trying to say it happened Worldwide (well, not including the fact that it only happened in the UK).

Knack, unreasonably hated on for being a new IP that was touted as a AAA exclusive when in reality it was a well crafted AA that was good with particle effects kind of exclusive with marginally good game play since 2013.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Mario-Kart-8-Selling-Out-Worldwide-Becomes-Fastest-Selling-Bundle-Nintendo-World-63980.html And this isn't even Smash Bros. Could this be the resurgence of the Wii U? Let's face it, now's a perfect time to get it, with two games (MK8, and a digital download) and the slew of the mature games people have been waiting for on the horizon like Bayo 2, Smash, and X, then Zelda and Fatal Frame as the two huge titles for 2015. Hop on board guys, the hype is real!

First off, I don't know why the whole "this isn't even Super smash Bros" thing is always emphasized. Mario kart has sold far more units for nintendo than super smash bros has.

Sales for super smash bros 64: 5.55M. Super smash bros melee: 7.07M. Super smash bros. Brawl: 12.15M. Franchise total 24.77M

Respective mario kart sales: Mario kart 64: 9.87M. Mario kart GC: 6.95. Mario Kart wii: 34.49M. Franchise total 97.97M.

Mario kart tends to sell far better than super smash bros. The one time this wasn't true, super smash bros. barely outsold Mario Kart. I'm not trying to bash SSB either. I love those games, and think they're actually far better than mario Kart, but the numbers don't lie. Mario kart will probably continue to be the better system seller.

Plus the artilce you linked says that it's the fastest selling bundle at nintendo world. I'd expect any big game to be the fastest selling thing on the website that's ran by the producers of that game (like an uncharted bundle on the sony store).

The other games listed also won't make that huge of a difference. Bayonetta one was not only on the ps3 and 360, and it had mediocre sales (barely over a million I believe). So now it's sequal is on neither of it's original consoles or their succesors.

X, the sequal to xenoblade, won't make a large difference, considering it's predecessor didn't even break a million sales.

Then there's fatal frame, which as a 6 game franchise, hasn't even broken a million units.

Smash, and Mario Kart, will boost sales for a bit, but both will likely be the worst selling in their franchise. And Zelda will be a similar story.
