Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 isn't going to help boost sales of the Wii U huh?

Nobody in their right mind thinks MK8 won't move hardware.

It will move hardware, but not a ressurgence. Not even close. The console won't see 100K per week, not even on launch week.

LOL, for me Wii U will sold more of 200,000 the week of Mario Kart. :P

Mario kart is bigger than smash bros BTW.

MK8 Console bundle on Amazon (hourly best seller list):

UK:  279

Germany: 147

France: 207

Italy: 1124

Spain: 2972

well i hope it goes up as release draws near

Personally i just wish the releases were inverted; X or Bayonetta 2 or Fatal frame now and MK8 later...that way i'd be joining the WiiU nation too ;(

I think the audience that Mario Kart can really make a difference with aren't really the kind to pre-order (family/kids). We really can't estimates what effect it will have with any accuracy IMO.

Nintendo's own forecast is 1.2 million more Wii-U's sold so unless they are planning a major price cut offcourse Mario Kart is going to boost sales.

It will give it a nice bump and will have nice legs, probably boosting Wii-U about 10k on average the rest of the summer.

Though i do fear that Smash Brothers will do hardly anything for hardware, because most people waiting for that game are also waiting for MK8.

? I don't get it.

Mario Kart 8 selling out worldwide  ...  The article that's in this thread.

Ok, but I was never saying that the hype for MK8 wasn't real, in fact I was asking what "fake hype" is even supposed to be. ;)

Oh and MK8 isn't really selling out world wide, the headline of the article is very misleading in that regard, as is normal with gaming articles.

Lol, that might have been Naruball. Responding to a lot of people. Different threads, ect.

I'm not as optimistic as this article, but I think if Mario Kart is pushed enough, Wii U sales could go from abysmal to mediocre.

So let me get this straight. You actually believe that MK8 wont help move 100K Wii U's for it's launch week? Are you being serious?

You don't have to agree with him, but it's not an outrageous prediction. That would be over a 300% increase from it's current numbers ^^;

OT: No one is saying it won't boost the WiiU's sales, but it's wishful thinking to believe a single game, or even 2, are going to suddenly "save" the WiiU.

You nailed it.

I think the system will not reach 10 million this year though, even with the push this game will provide. Though i expect Mario Kart to play a bigger role in pushing the console sales in the holiday season actually. Nintendo games experience '"relaunches" in the holiday season, i guess it's all the parents buying stuff for their kids, which is something they've always had, even with the WiiU.

You've just summarized 80% of all videogame sales.
