Maybe some character and kart cross-DLC type thing with Sega?

I can't imagine them going that far. Sonic isn't in Mario's universe the way Diddy is, and the only reason I even mentioned F-Zero DLC is because there is already a precident for F-Zero content in a Mario game ala the Blue Falcon Kart in Mario Kart Wii. If anything, the last two remaining cups will either be one retro cup and one completely new cup, or the more likely two completely new cups. (with eight new original tracks)

Even if there was F-Zero DLC, I don't think F-Zero would become a playable character or anything. Just the Blue Falcon Kart at most.

Here's my perfect Mario Kart 8 DLC within reason.

4 DLC Cup Packs in total:

Balloon Cup Pack - $6.99

- Diddy Kong + "Hover Kart" + 4 retro Diddy Kong Racing tracks

Zero Cup Pack - $6.99

- Dry Bones + Blue Falcon Kart + 4 retro F-Zero tracks

Hammer Cup Pack - $6.99

- Bowser Jr. + New Kart + 4 completely new and original tracks

Boomerang Cup Pack - $6.99

- Nabbit + New Kart + 4 completely new and original tracks

Season Pass - $25

All 4 Cup Packs [Balloon Cup Pack + Zero Cup Pack + Hammer Cup Pack + Boomerang Cup Pack] + Kirby + Star Kart + 3 retro Battle Mode arena's.

A DLC double dash mode would shake up the mechanics. Throw in some extra Double dash retro courses.

Whoever owned the rights to Goldeneye 64 didnt care when Rare used weapons and levels from Goldeneye in Perfect Dark.
And I am pretty sure Rare cannot own Diddy Kong Racing because Diddy Kong as name/character whatever is owned by Nintendo.

I believe Nintendo could remake DKR but without Conker or Banjo. The other characters should still belong to Nintendo (only Banjo and Conker where absent from the DS version of the game because Rare/MS owns them)  Unlike Banjo and Conker and Killer Instinct etc. Rare made DKR and DK64 FOR Nintendo.

If DonkeyKong is in the same universe as Mario and StarFox and F-Zero because of Fox's Father being sucked into a wormhole and ending up as a F-Zero pilot. And in hyrule are Mario paintings and even characters etc. Smash suddenly makes more sense ;)
