Forums - Gaming - Underrated/Overlooked games that became overrated

Xenoblade.- First of all, i didnt like the game but thats not important since i dont like a lot of good games. Nevertheless, i find very curious that this so-called best jrpg of all time was launched in a console with so few titles of this genre (meaning no audience), in a year without support (no games) and by a studio with an average record.

So yeah, imo Xenoblade was this well received due a lot of circumstances aside from the game itself. Yet, it started as an underrated game (selling wise).

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

They're ok games, largely ignored wen they released, now praised like they're amazing. They aren't.

This.

My mom randomly bought me ICO (i hadn't even heard of it) back when it was new or fairly new and I didn't like it at all. Can't speak for SoTC but definitely ICO.

How about an HD spiritual sequel with mechs?

*gasp*

WAT IZ DAT!!!!!! :O

A new open world action RPG from the developers of Xenoblade, thought to be its spiritual/direct sequel. According to the director, Xenoblade was more of an experiment.

Edit: But you probably know that already.

The first game that came to mind was Xenoblade: Chronicles. I've never played it, but I'm sure it really deserves a ton of praise. Even still, best JRPG of the generation? Best JRPG of all time?

If you havent played it, how would you know?

The same reason so many people praise and list games as good or bash and list games as bad despite never playing them and their opinions are solely based on popular opinion.  even when most times popular opinion of overlooked games is based on a whole bunch of people who haven't played the games just parroting what they've heard from others who may or may not have played the game.

Also.  The same  reason that many people who have played limited games in a genre make the assumption that such and such is one of the best games in the genre despite missing out on well over 100+ games in that genre that could be considered great.

definitely demon souls, was a complete sleeper hit, now everyone seems to use it for the "hardcore gamer" title

Eartbound.

If it wasn't for Nes in Smash Bros. most people would probably still don't know of that game's existence. The game itself is good, but the cult fanbase make it sound like the second coming of Christ, which is nowhere close to it imo.

Nintendo and PC gamer

If only Majora's Mask had ever been underrated.

I could sort of see Xenoblade, but I don't think it's exactly "popular opinion" that it's the best (J)RPG of all time. Most people would probably still single out Final Fantasy 6 or 7 or Chrono Trigger for that one. Best (J)RPG of the generation, however, is a title it certainly deserves to be in the running for.

Pffft, what a couple of jokahs.

I don't have time for small fry.

...Why is everyone going so hard on this. All I said was that it was the first thing that came to mind. It looks like a game that looks like it cold be overrated and looks like it was once under rated. I didn't say one bit of critisism. I didn't even say it wasn't the best JRPG. I just begged the question. I literally couldn't be more clear with that post, and yet people act like I'm throwing fire at a game I've never played.

He made a topic and I offered some input. The only opinion in that post was "I'm sure it deserves a ton of praise." I swear, this community is so creepily sensitive.

Oh, and this isn't directed specifically at you, but it's annoying just how quickly people get butt hurt over literally nothing.
