Yes, but there was no incentive to get a gamecube, while the PS3 was the successor of the best selling (and imo, the best) ever, so yes price parity between the PS3 and Wii would have ruined the Wii.  The Wii was given an opening and Nintendo took it. 

 I disagree, as Wii hype was building even before the PS3 price was revealed, the PS3 price merely hurt Sony further, it didn't effect the Wii hype which was plain to see at E3 2006

Notice how the PS3 sales have been at best equal to PSP sales over the same time frame, and most of the time a little less?  Would you like to present a counter argument to why that doesn't indicate a similar but lower track for the PS3?

All three consoles have their good and bad attributes. I think that is great that wii is having such wonderful success. But, I really think that the PS3 gets less credit then it deserves. I believe people are being too hard on it. The Wii and PS3 are both great consoles in their own ways because they appeal to different crowds. I hope both consoles sell well.

So, either you really are so lacking in the thinking department that you honestly don't know why the Wii is outselling it's competition, or you're just a troll who gets off on making fun of the PS3. Which is it?  Do you really not know, or are you just that upset that the first two Playstations destroyed their competition and feel like you have to gloat to make up for the last decade of choosing the losing side?
