I skimmed over the above posts, so, I apologize if I say something thats already been explained. Also, as a Wii supporter and a Nintendo supporter, I'll try to take out as much biased-ness as I can and if I do say anything biased, lemme know and I'll correct myself.
My reasons why the Wii is still outselling the PS3 and why it will probably continue this trend:
1. The price. $250 vs. $500. Most people don't have $500 laying around and would rather buy the Wii, along with 4-5 games. Also, parents would rather buy the Wii then the PS3 because of it's price. However, with the fall of HD-DVD and the fact that the PS3 is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market(Last time I checked), may give it a boost.
2. The exclusive games. The Wii has more exclusive games then the PS3. Most PS3 games can be purchased for the 360 and the computer. So, people would rather buy the 360 for games such as Assassins Creed instead of shelling out another ~$100 to get a PS3. I'm not sure the exact price of the 360. But, this lack of exclusive games for the PS3 steals from its sells.
3. Party buying the console. The Wii has done something extraordinary. It has opened up gaming for any age group. This will definitely help with the Wii's profits because of the huge range of buyers. The 360 and PS3 don't really appeal to the younger and older audiences.
4. The new way of gaming. The Wii offers the usage of old and new controller methods to game play while the PS3 just has the controller. For instance, Super Smash Bros. Brawl supports the Wiimote, Wiimote + Nunchuck, Gamecube Controller, and the Classic Controller. This new way of gaming causes people who were not once gamers to try it out.
5. The potential the Wii has. The Wii has the potential to do so many things. Head-tracking, for instances, would revolutionize game play. And with other capabilites the Wii has, I believe the Wii will be here for a long time.
But, yeah. The über-amazing hardware the PS3 has doesn't influence everyone to go out and buy it, even though it is the strongest console processor/graphics-wise on the market.
